Austin, TX meet up thread

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Were there a lot of spectators for the speed runs? Was the crowd getting into it? I would've liked to watch the Contra speed runs. Were there a lot of competitors?

I was only there for the Metroid tourney. If you died, your turn was over out. If you ran out of time (5 mins), your turn was over. They were scoring based on how many areas you cleared or passed through. I think around 15 or 20 people entered. The crowd was pretty into it. I didn't see anyone wandering around during play. Everyone was watching the game play.

To technically I guess they were timed runs and not necessarily speed runs.

Ok, just a few more days!

Could you guys start posting a list of what you're bringing. Again, I'd like to have another CRT at least if someone could bring one. A 20" would be just fine. Just make sure it's something you don't mind TATEing. I would bring my 27" Sony Trinitron, but it weighs around 50 to 75lbs and my apartment is on the 3rd floor. It's just not practical.

Also bring any other systems and games you guys want to play. I don't have my Genesis anymore, but SNES/Genesis/NES shmups would be pretty awesome.

Even better, if someone has a 360 with some of the recently released shmups, bring them! PS2 and import shmups? Bring em'.

I could bring whatever for systems, but the only CRTs I have that are portable are 13s and I'm not sure I want to tate them anyway.

I have way too many shmups to 'bring a good chunk'. :P

Maybe I could just do TG/PCE so it is something different.

Hmm... I'm tempted to leave my ps3 at home and have you bring yours. I have some neogeo station games you don't but that's really it.
