Man, I missed a topic on books too...I am quite disappointed in myself.
Authors that I love - Jules Verne, Alan Dean Foster, HG Wells, James Gurney, L Frank Baum, John Bunyan, Leonard Ravenhill, Tolkien/Lewis, and I am becoming a fan of Maurice LeBlanc and John LeCarre. I have been slowly working my way thorugh Project Gutenberg since the late 90s...
Noted books:
Neuromancer - I view it as a must for anyone in the IT field who enjoys Scifi.
Dinotopia - Combines light steampunk with Dinosaurs...
Arsene Lupin - Basis for Lupin the Third, fantastic Sherlock Holmes like stories involving mythical elements.
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold - Fantastic Cold War Spy book, considered the best Spy novel of all time (how it beat out Tinker Tailor I do not know).
Tik-Tok of Oz - Tiktok is the Royal Army of Oz, and there is good reason for it. Yes it is a childs book, but it is very entertaining and public domain (along with the rest of Baum's Oz books). Though if you wants something darker read Glinda of Oz - he wrote it while dying and he paints a vividly dim world.
I am always looking for a good book but prefer Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Spy novels (you couldnt figure that out on your own huh?). Victorian Science Fiction and Childrens Fantasy are my current favorites with 20+ of each on my palm pilot right now.
Who reads books?
Re: Who reads books?
I have two bookshelves of fiction. One of them is devoted to Star Wars. The other has my other stuff, like Heinlein and Herbert. I've also been slowly growing a collection of Battletech books.

Re: Who reads books?
Which Star Wars books Popo? I read a fair chunk of them in the late 90s and think the best ones are the three Tales of books (Bounty Hunters, Cantina, Jabba's Place). Though I did enjoy the Jedi Academy trilogy quite a bit - Suncrusher through bridge of Star Destroyer, thats just cool.
Re: Who reads books?
I have basically every adult novel that isn't set in the Clone Wars. I also have all the Essential Guides, the Encyclopedia, and the new three book Encyclopedia. The last one is the only one I haven't read through yet.

Re: Who reads books?
I like fantasy, as in sword 'n sorcery types, but I'm really picky on what series I will pick up. There are so many Robert Jordan and Laura K. Hamilton fans running around here that I feel constricted by their horde of high-school giddy fanboys/girls- and any fantasy book I'd suggest they just blink and go back to reading their Joss Whedon fanfiction... Not that there's anything wrong with liking a particular series or writer, it just feels like they're "cheating"...
The last fiction I read outside of literature class was Flesh and Spirit and Breath and Bone by Carol Berg, then before that The Picture of Dorian Gray. Occassionally I'll take out my Zen and Oriental Art book by Hugo Munsterberg and flip through it again.
Books that I remember loving the most:
Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Misty of Chincoteague
Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart
Temeraire by Naomi Novik- awesome fantasy/historical fiction writer!
The Death Gate Cycle
Hans Christian Anderson's Fairy Tales
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz -specifically the edition with the beautiful illustrations by Charles Santore
The Yearling
The Foundation Trilogy
A Sound of Thunder
Fahrenheit 451
then collections of ghost stories with images that I can never forget:
Scary Stories 3, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and More Scary Stories- (I had to look these up, searching for the individual short stories' names)
I read Goosebumps just so I could have something in common with my elementary school peers... because I read The Old Man and the Sea for FUN.
Of course there are much more...
