I have a model 2 Genesis and the adapter doesn't really get that warm. Play it safe.

Well, I looked at your thread at pcenginefx.com and it looks like your Genesis model 2 AC adapter is different from mine. Yours is 9v 1000mA and mine is 10v 850mA. Weird. I'd say your adapter is definitely better suited to the Duo than mine is.

I came across the TurboGrafx a while back on emulation - best version of Galaga there is! Bomberman is good too on the system. Bought about a dozen games so far - the ones I played on emulation I now have originals for.

Anyway, recently bought one off e-bay, cut about 40% of the board off (so it will fit into my case), did lots of rewiring; made a 8P2T switch; made the system take not only US games but also Japanese games too. You can make them region free fairly easily, and virtually for free. If you have the Japanese models you can do the same mod, just also ground pin 29 on one of the HU chips - you don't need to do this on the US model though (TG16).

Making the system into a portable, as you may have guessed.

The TurboGrafx has many good games on it (and many bad ones too).

what's wrong with the turbo express?
it's great you are doing that project, just seems like it's not as handheld as a TE.

The Turbo Express has a lower resolution screen, a smaller and harder to see screen. It's also an older screen which uses more power and isn't that bright. It's known to have capacitor problems which can require lots of skill or money to fix later in life. And theoretically you could wire a portable TG/PCE to connect to a CD unit of some sort, which you can't do with a TE.

But it's sexy as hell, and the form factor is much smaller than your unit. Might be harder to track down a used TE, but that would that be a much smaller board.

The capacitor issues are pretty well documented. I've skipped those issues for the most part by running mine off AC.

Many have noticed the AC adapter is only 7V, while the batteries output 9V. Some of us only run on 5 batteries(7.5V), and this has seemed to avoid all issues with the capacitors. You might know more on this than I even.

Didn't realise this at all, but it sure makes sense now that you mention it.
So 5 AA's instead of 6 and no issues with regard to the capacitors? I just very recently bought myself a TE, so that's good to know.

If you use modern rechargeable AAs, those generally put out 1.2v instead of 1.5v. So if you used 6 of them you'd still be down 1.5v total and probably OK.
