I vote Waku Waku 7.

I would like to suggest the Wonder Boy series for consideration. Theres plenty of games in the series for people to choose from, and they somewhat vary in genre too. Add that to the fact that they're all of a fairly high quality, and are mostly available on VC aswell as mega drive/master system/modified Ports to Turbografx and it should be a series thats easily available to many people also.

Is there one Wonderboy title that you would suggest over the others? I am not very familiar with the series.

Well, I'd personally say the most enjoyable game in the series is Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap for Sega Master System (it's on VC, and was also ported to Turbografx under the name Dragons Curse- Also available on VC). It's possibly (probably?) the best game on the system, and a brilliant platform adventure game.

Its worth noting that this is a COMPLETELY different game to Wonder Boy 3 for Sega Megadrive though. Its got much more in common with Wonder Boy in Monster Land (SMS, ARC, VC) and Wonder Boy in Monster world.(SMD,VC, possibly T16)

my vote is for the original Wonder Boy as it was ported to a ton of systems, and was remade as Adventure Island for the NES (OMG!).

"Escape/Westone had a licensing arrangement whereby they owned the rights to the game, but Sega retained rights to the main characters, bosses, and names. Because of this they teamed up with Hudson Soft to produce a conversion of the game for the NES, under a new license.

To get around the licensing issue, Hudson Soft simply had the graphics of the main character and the title changed. The result was Adventure Island, which instead of featuring Tom-Tom, featured a character known as Master Higgins, who bore a striking resemblance to Tom-Tom, albeit with a hat. The game was, however, Wonder Boy in all but name. In this arrangement, once again, Hudson Soft retained the rights to the character and name, allowing them to continue to produce future games using the Adventure Island name and characters. These sequels are not based on the Wonder Boy sequels."

Wonder Boy III! I have the Turbografx-16 version, aka Dragon's Curse, and have been wanting to give it a play through.

my votes for the last 3 based on other people's suggestions... Wonder Boy (the original game), Street Fighter 3 Alpha, and Spy Hunter.

another fighter that I hear good things about is Bloody Roar. Though that's not 2D.

For the together retro games, is Genesis or snes considered Retro enough?
