Yeah, that's on target.

My husband bought us tickets for opening night as a fun surprise, and I did enjoy myself. I spent a lot of time looking over at him and putting my hands palm-up in that "What the?! Well all right then!" shrug as plot point after plot point was explained with "well we have this crazy bit of technology that perfectly interfaces with that piece of technology to make THIS crazy piece of technology!!," but it was always with a smile on my face.

I wasn't a super fan of Krang or Shredder, I have to say. Krang was too goofy in a certain way for my tastes (which I KNOW sound ridiculous, because it's KRANG, so I bet this is just a personal nostalgia problem), and Shredder seemed too... not there. But I didn't realize Tohoru Masamune was a last-minute addition, so that explains that. This movie did prove some Truth in Beat 'em Ups, though, which is that
Krang is ALWAYS the worst fight, UGGGHHH!
I was so excited to see Bebop and Rocksteady get some kind of legitimate life beyond the cartoon. And I loved, just loved, that they kept those ridiculous glasses on Bebop.

You know what other villain totally killed it in this movie?
THE TECHNODROME! Oh man, when that eye telescoped up, and its weaponry started emerging... that might have been my favorite moment. I got a little giddy. It just hit the right chord. I could have done with the thing not being up in the air, but whatever. I hope the focus in the next movie IS the Technodrome, and that the Turtles have to get in there and face off against Rock Soldiers and Roadkill Rodneys and Mousers all that awesome stuff!! Okay, calming down.

I did get ticked off once, though. That Karai scene?
No WAY would April and Casey have been able to knock her out, much less sneak up on her. Those two goofs should have been dead where they stood before they even realized Karai knew they were in the ROOM. Just sayin'.
I mean, the movie is bad. It's really bad. But it has one or two moments of heart, the Turtles are actually developing slightly nuanced personalities, and a lot of focus is put on family, so they're moving in a direction I like.

Well, its not the first totally bad turtles movie.

Whenever I get the feeling that I'm taking this franchise too seriously, I look at my "coming out of their shells tour" VHS cassette and remember that it could always be worse.

The brilliance with TMNT is that it's been reinvented so many times, and that so many different media universes have been combined into new things, you don't get those "fan anger" feelings so much anymore. The more content there is, the harder it is to fall into the trap of feeling like there is a way the franchise "should" be. It even gets exciting to see things done or incorporated in a new way. I mean, at least I think so. Except for that Karai thing.

Woah woah woah. Samson. Bud. Pizza Power is a legitimately good song, and I don't care what any of you, or certain family members, or even the entire world, might have to say about that.

(Seriously I do actually love it, and I enjoy the show itself too, but I understand that I might be the only human being who does and also that none of you might speak to me ever again after this.)

I agree. And actually, the reboot's origin story and quite a few elements actually seem to come from the 2011 comic series that Eastman himself penned. So there's that.

Having been a fan for much of my life, at this point I just go with the flow and enjoy the various takes on the characters and their new stories. I'm ok with the fact that the Mirage comics aren't the cartoon which wasn't the 90's movies & Next Mutation which was not the 2000's series which isn't the current CGI series which isn't the new movies series... and none of them are the various comic series that have gone on throughout.

I also really dig the Nickelodeon CG series.

I think I have seen ONE episode of it ever. I remember thinking it was alright but def seemed aimed more at kids. I'll give it more of a shot... but not for a while. I still on season 3 of the 80s/90s series. I might jump to some of the other series as well to mix it up. I think the 00's series is awesome, though. I'd really like to watch more of that.

Usagi is awesome. I always thought that was a great crossover.

There is a tour of old rap and rnb artists right now called I love the 90s. Guess who made a special appearance at a few of the shows?
