I'd rather have the native Wii remote motion-controls than try to set up some PC alternative. The Bit.Trip games were made for the Wii remote in my mind.

Yeah, I can see that. They are all pretty great on any platform, and I'd agree that the compilation disc is a better choice than some of what's in the Top 25 now.

I'd still like to see Ultimate Shooting Collection 2 make it - those 5 Milestone shmups are all a lot of fun.

Go read Flake's post in this thread.
Ok.... what? Flake linked to the 'that defined the Wii' article. Earlier in RB's history there were several articles for earlier systems with the theme 'that still matter today' or 'for today'. I see that as very as different than 'that defined the'. Or am I missing something from your reply?

I forgot we had those old articles...I thought you meant that there might not have been any front page Wii content. My bad!

Up for discussion: Mario Sports Mix
I like Fortune Street... it's just so niche though. Calling it a jazzed up Monopoly clone isn't such a stretch, and even though that sounds awesome to me it's certainly not what the average Joe would look for.

Also interested to hear opinions about Mario Sports Mix - I skipped that game entirely.

Muramasa The Demon Blade ... Little King's Story...
I think in all these cases, the PS3 and Vita releases make it hard to argue that the game should be on a list of 25 indispensible games that you'd go back to. Great games? Sure. Arguably in the best 25 on the system? Sure. The way you'd want to play them in the future? Likely not.
For PS3 releases of RE4 or Dead Space Extraction, I'm ok with this.

For Vita only releases I (probably) disagree. Playing the gorgeous Muramasa or charming Little King's Story on a big screen would be preferable for me over playing on a handheld - even if that means forgoing HD graphics.

Caveat: I have no idea about compatibility with Vita TV, or whatever that failed hardware is called, and that might affect my choice. The graphics changes in Little King's Story still leave that one up in the air.
...
I need to play Ghost Squad (will do so soon). I also need to play Target Terror (and will do soon). Have you played it? LA & NY get the nod over both of those for me b/c of the fact that it is two light game guns on one disc, so if I had to pick JUST ONE light gun game it would be LA & NY since they aren't available elsewhere and are such a blast to play through.
...
Haven't played Target Terror. The cheese it offers looked different than what Ghost Squad provides, and not as appealing to me personally. No first-hand experience though.

LA & NY is good and I'm glad to own it. But I just enjoyed Ghost Squad more, found it has more replay value (although not necessarily more content), and it's another game that can't be played other than Wii and Arcade. So just a personal preference call on this one. Definitely worth trying both if people have the chance.
...Bit.Trip Complete ...
But there are better versions of these games out there on other platforms...right? Aren't all of them on PC with HD visuals, for example?
Gaming on PC feels fundamentally different than on consoles, so that wasn't in my mind. But HD graphics aren't that crucial to the game and if you start including PC then the "essential 25" games for any console last generation is wildly altered.

I'd still include it, personally. Can understand the argument you are making though.

One additional question: has there been a better motion-based golf game than the latest Tiger Woods game on Wii?

That series of games was more fun than they had any right to be on Wii, and one of the few cases of a game being more enjoyable with motion controls than without. Packing in a frisbee-based disc golf mode (apparently only available on Wii?) made it even better.

I'm just not sure if other consoles have emulated/improved on that experience. My assumption is that there must be... and even if not, I'm not sure if Tiger Woods is worth keeping (even in honorable mentions) over Wii Sports which is much simpler but more accessible. Since video games seem to be decisively moving away from motion controls, it feels like games like this will be fun to come back to in the future.

dsheinem wrote: Muramasa The Demon Blade was re-released on Vita. Same with Little King's Story, although that game had tweaks and some aesthetic changes made. In my opinion, being on a portable console doesn't invalidate either from being a "must play" on a home console, so both remain in my Wii list.

Muramasa I can agree with, but the Wii version of Little King's Story blows the Vita version out of the water. It controls better, it suffers less slowdown and has a more consistent framerate. The art style is notably different too, and I much prefer it on the Wii.

The Masters games on PS3 have Move support, HD visuals, are newer, etc.

Thanks - had a feeling that was the case, but wasn't sure. Ignore that suggestion.
(Still fun games, but I'd bet PS3 is the better way to play.)

Read my earlier post above yours.

Why do I even bother.
Suddenly I feel like i need this game...yesterday  I think I'm suckered in because it's a Atlus game but all the images i've looked at make me want it so freaking bad....
The Trauma Center games are fantastic, go get it!

And Captain Rainbow is #1 so no need to worry about that spot. :P
