Re: Together RPG - SRPG - Ogre Battle MotBQ - 1/11/14 -> 3/1
Dodged a major bullet. Warren's ALI had been plummeting; it was down to 15 when I put him in the front row in hopes of him no longer getting kills but still getting exp (of course, he kept last hitting like a bastard). Slums of Zenobia starts and he's at 11 ALI, level 7. I put him on base defense just in case and planned on keeping him in that role for a few maps until the enemy levels outpaced his enough that I could safely bring him out again. I then proceeded to get two Promote items (gain a level instantly) and an enemy sneaked through to the base. I used Tarots to get the kills and Warren dinged 8, then I used both Promotes to get him to 10 and promoted him to Mage. He then proceeded to tear through several units when I brought the walls down and leveled up the Ninjas in his unit from 6 to 9.

I just started and I feel a bit lost. In the 2nd map they give you 8 units and a bunch of spares and I have not much of an idea what to do. There are like 60 characters suddenly under my command.
I see two gryphons and I would like to have a flying unit, but there is no flying leader. How does that work out? There are a few beast tamers as well.

For the most part the initial squads are pretty well put together. The extras available are there to allow you to either expand the army (any doubling up of leader capable units can be spread out) or try out something different (more soldiers/amazons, using those Octopi). But if you just want to jump in just use the units they gave you.Ivo wrote:I just started and I feel a bit lost. The unit movement type is based on a hierarchy of units, and so it looks at the highest movement tier unit and uses that as your movement. So if you have a single Gryphon and three small units then the entire unit will have the High Sky movement type. Similarly, there are Hawkmen which are small units with the Low Sky movement type, so if you have a single Hawkman and then 4 other small units it will be a Low Sky movement. The basic hierarchy is that the large units take precedence over the small units, and then the less restrictive takes precedence over the more restrictive (Plains will take precedence over Forest), with the water movements being an exception I believe.I see two gryphons and I would like to have a flying unit, but there is no flying leader. How does that work out? There are a few beast tamers as well.
Edit: Looks like Plains takes precedence over water if the same unit size.
Edit2: Oh yeah, just lucked out some more. I got an Undead Staff drop from an enemy in Diaspora, so Warren got turned into a Lich and made a beeline for the boss. Then I was able to use the Sentoul Demon you can get in Diaspora to turn another one of my Mages into a Sorcerer, so now I have a ton of hit all damage going out.

Beat Lake Jansenia last night. I like hitting that one up before Pogrom. I did screw up and accidentally clicked I would side with Sirius and lost some damn rep. But shouldnt be too tough to get back.
Managed to pick up my werewolf and raven man from the map as well. I need to shuffle up my units a bit more wih some of these new additions. One of Lans fighters has 45 ali, which will be tough to boost while also keeping his mages low...

Best thing for that fighter in Lans's group would be to give him the Rune Axe when you do Pogrom Forest (and put tactics on Strong if you've got a cleric in the group). The nice thing about the undead is it lets you selectively raise ALI/CHA on a unit basis, rather than a group basis.
Also, I now have two Liches and two Princesses after doing Musphelm. I've got the Liches paired up in my sole evil unit and the Princesses spread out. When I get into the later game I'll start combining for maximum devastation.

That is ridiculous at that point in the game. Wrecking crew right there.
Yeah I will have to do that with the fighter. Another reason I like going to the lake first as it gives me another holy weapon.

I'm fairly certain I can get at least one more guaranteed Lich, so my endgame plan is to make one unit of 2x Lich, Princess, 2x General and another of Lich, Princess, 3x Dragoon and have them both beeline for the enemy base, tearing up stuff along the way.

Beat the Pogrom Forest last night. Man that one lasts forever, endless enemies. My Warren is in trouble too and it is annoying. He has 17 ali while the beastmaster and other wizard in his group are mid 40s. This will be tough to promote him.
I was able to promote the rest of my units from this one. I think I need another low ali unit.
I was lucky in this one and picked up 2 undead staffs from enemy drops.

Re: Together RPG - SRPG - Ogre Battle MotBQ - 1/11/14 -> 3/1
Yeah, so no undead staffs, no rings, no Dragon stones or whatever they are, and no crowns yet. I've gotten some good weapon drops(I got four Notos in the Slums of Zenobia...), along with a Merchant, which I am saving, but nothing for changing classes.
Currently I have reached the Kastolatian Sea, but unfortunately my reputation isn't high enough to get anything, nor is it low enough to recruit the likes of Deneb. I played a bit of the map last night but lost about two hours worth of gameplay after I accidentally jostled my SNES. I'm suffering from mobility issues in all this water, though I am sufficiently powerful to swat the enemy away. And with new characters joining like Ashe, Lyon, and Aisha, I'm cannibalizing and rebuilding squads to focus around these new power-houses. Warren has successfully become a mage, and I have numerous knights, ninja, valkyries, and even a few shamans now.
And my grumbling about alignment continues, especially after the priest/angel squads I faced at Island Avalon pitched a couple of units out of whack. I've lost my Doll Mage, though thankfully he was a high enough level to immediately become a Mage. And Gilbert is now screwed, stuck at 11 alignment but two levels too low to change to Beast Master. A single fucking cleric(fuck clerics and their obscenely high alignment, they ruin everything. Even my high alignment guys see their alignments drop) dropped his alignment by 7 points in Island Avalon because his dumb ass AI was too stupid to target the weak angel next to her when I specifically told him to target Weak. Sometimes I've noticed that even when I am giving orders(and I do now regularly to get them to focus damage on targets I want taken out), the AI still goes for different characters. Oh well, Lyon can become a Beast Master. Gilbert...I just don't know what to do with him. Also, nearly all of my other wizards have become backrow ninjas after hitting single digit alignment. I was using the undead in Pogrom Forest to boost individual characters' alignments, but now I'm too high of a level for most of my units.
Oh, and Canopus is a great character, but I'm still using his original squad, and his Hawk Men just aren't pulling their weight...nor is the Griphon for that matter. Any suggestions?
