Re: Game vs Game - Aladdin
I can understand and respect your opinion on the level design, but you should know you are in the minority when it comes to your opinion of the graphics. If nothing else, it's one of the few Mega Drive games that looks better than its SNES counterpart (of course that's because they are different games all together, and this one had the help of Disney animators).

The other night, I decided to give Aladdin on Genesis another shot. Now, I'm not saying that I hate the game, or that I'll never play it again, but I just don't think it's that great. I got a few levels deep then got bored and shut it off.
I've played a lot of the SNES version back when, so I know that I'm use to that version and I might be biased. But the first thing that always hits me about the Genesis version is the visuals and the sound. They're just not as good as the SNES version. The colors seem bland by comparison (the really plain backgrounds probably don't help) and it sounds more like an NES game. The sound effects aren't as good, and the music just seems really simple and kinda cheesy.
I'm also not a fan of the level designs. This might be tough for me to explain. A lot of the levels have you going vertically and horizontally, and I've never been of a fan of that. Games like SMB3 or Super Mario World, Sonic, and plenty of others have you going vertically often, but it's not the same. I'm talking about the type of level design that feels more like a maze, that has you constantly going up and down as much as you go left and right. I'm having trouble citing examples because I don't like that type of level design, I haven't played many games with it. IIRC, Daffy Duck The Marvin Missions and Daze Before Christmas had that type of level design. Does any one know what I'm talking about?
I am a genesis die-hard, but you are right. The biggest flaw the genesis version has is level design. It is a labyrinth of twisting paths and dead ends that can be very very frustrating. I have never been a fan of this level design concept for the 8/16-bit games. It is a sign of American level design back in the day and that is a bad thing. With the sound, I hate to admit it, but good music on the genesis is an exception to the rule. I can't stand the buzz and hum of the genesis sound chip, yet I enjoy the system the most.
What I don't agree with is the colors and such. I don't see them as bland, nor do I think the backgrounds are dull and boring (except for the dungeon level..that one is just a bit). Everything else though, spot on.

What motherboard revision of Genesis is it? A lot of the Model 2s have terrible buzzing problems.
And Aladdin is a GEMS game so the sound isn't all it could be but it's one of the absolute best uses of GEMS.
In regards to the Genesis game's colors, it looks like the movie and for the most part it's pretty bright. The SNES game gives a little too-much at times.
I agree Genesis Aladdin's level design is not great and kind of typical of a lot of western designed platformers of the time. It's not abysmal though either.
Capcom's game by contrast is solid but it's also a little too safe and too by-the-numbers. There are times when it's just flat out boring to me.
They're both fairly good, but I don't really think either are total classics or anything.

I have a Model 1. I know the model 2 is really rough, I would hate to hear that.

Like model 2's, not all model 1's are equal. In fact, the later revisions to the model 1 have the same shitty audio that the early revisions of the model 2 have.

So you could have a model 1 and still have bad audio.
Re: Game vs Game - Dr. Mario
Another review done right.
Never knew that there was a Dr. Mario for the N64, which I will seek out as the girls/women in my close circle of friends LOVE this game. I love it too, but a four player match sounds like a long night of fun.
Keep up the spectacular work, and I'll keep sharing it.
Best of luck!

Good video dude.
I also never knew about the N64 Dr. Mario game. A shame this seems to have been overlooked for a VC release.
Quick question: What's the game you show at around 27 seconds into your title credits? The one where the guy is hacking at bad guys with a sword.

That looks like the blue warrior from Gauntlet Legends.
