It was far from a clear cut choice back when I built the PC, so even though my processor supports 64-bit architecture I opted for 32-bit for the sake of compatibility with older software and hardware that I knew I would use. There were arguments back and forth on tech forums about the benefits and drawbacks of switching and almost all game sites said stick to 32-bit if you want to play some older games. Within a year or two, (e.g. by the release of Windows 7), compatibility got much better.

I do have a Windows 7 64-bit upgrade disc, but not sure if I can upgrade very easily from the 32-bit Vista I am running (if I put the disc in while in Windows it says to boot with it, if I put it in and boot with it, it says to install from Windows  ).
Ouch, you have been using Vista for the last 6 years? I am sorry.

It is stable and works with no problems, why would I switch just because?

I have it running to look/act like XP. I have all the MS software/virus/firewall/etc. stuff turned off. It really just feels like XP to me, but is surprisingly even more stable.

I am well aware that it earned its fair share of criticism, and especially at launch it was a mess. Fact is, when I built the PC it was the lead OS from MS, it had been greatly improved, and there were lots of things that were once forced or not available which had since been changed. Again, the thing is as stable or more than XP, which I ran for as long as I reasonably could for the same reasons.

The fact that you have used 7, and own an update disc, yet kept Vista for 6 years makes me question YOUR stability.
