Re: This gen. is over . Do you hold highly any console?
No! Please no! Not the 'hardcore' debate!!!!!!!!! It quite literally makes my brain melt.

Re: This gen. is over . Do you hold highly any console?
hard-core - adj. (gaming). An arbitrary, divisive, and largely useless term that assholes often attempt to provide a fixed meaning for on video game messageboards. Synonym: bananasMenegrothx wrote: show me a better one.
cas-u-al - adj. (gaming). See "hardcore."

If being a "hardcore" gamer is a central part of someone's identity, then he should seriously reconsider his priorities and what he hopes to get out of life.
That said, I hope that this is the last word on this completely meaningless "debate" in this or any other thread. (I very much doubt it, however...)

Yeah I am done as well. Menegro can't distinguish and read what I said when I say he is trying to too narrowly define a broad term so there is no point in wasting more effort.
Daves definition gave me a laugh, there you go, that is my definition to use.

Man what assholes
In case that's some sort of a personal jab: I've never claimed to be a hardcore gamer on this forum. I've been "borderline hardcore" in the past, but I never managed to break the glass ceiling despite excessive time use.

Pay attention. This debate isn't about hardcore gamers, although that term gets thrown around in some of my posts. It's about hardcore games, and classifying games as hardcore or casual.prfsnl_gmr wrote: If being a "hardcore" gamer is a central part of someone's identity, then he should seriously reconsider his priorities and what he hopes to get out of life.

Because you've never explained your message and just kept looping the same thing over and over with out replying to any of my points. That's not how you win an argument.Jmustang1968 wrote:Menegro can't distinguish and read what I said when I say he is trying to too narrowly define a broad term so there is no point in wasting more effort.

They don't need to, because they're not the ones trying to destroy the oppressive shackles of well established vernacular.dsheinem wrote: notice that they don't try to define it anywhere, though
Although not nearly all of the games they cover are "hardcore" - the site itself is. They put a lot of effort into researching old and obscure games, making comparisons etc. It's an activity that requires a great deal of knowledge, skill (in many cases) and commitment. Something that most gamers, or retro gamers for that matter, aren't able to do - hence the term, hardcore.

Seriously, what a stupid, idiotic argument. If you feel better classifying people into groups that play "hardcore" games and those that do not, then I hope you have fun. No one cares, not here on this forum, and not in real life. If some kid walked up to me in an EB and told me a game I was looking at wasn't "hardcore", I would turn, smile at him, and tell him to fu*k off and get a life.
