The whole port was done in 6 months (from getting the hardware, learning it, and porting it) IIRC. The fact it's not completely broken is pretty impressive.Redifer wrote:I'd like to slightly update some of my previous posts about Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed on the Wii U. I have downloaded and played the demo on the Xbox 360 to compare. It turns out that the Wii U version really isn't that bad. And honestly it's hard to notice much if any difference between the two. There are some slight graphical glitches in a couple of stages in the Wii U version, but I don't know if they're present in other versions since the demo doesn't contain those particular stages. Also, the surround sound in the Xbox 360 version seems to be a bit better/more active, but not a mindblowing difference or anything. Still no subwoofer. Must be a game design choice not to have any. Obviously this was a rushed port, but I'm surprised they did as good of a job as they did.

My buddy and I spent all weekend playing wii u, we had Nintendoland, NSMBU and Sonic All Star Racing to choose from. The game we spent most time playing? Sonic All Star Racing. No lie, that game is fantastic. The second most played game was Pikmin on Nintendoland, that is an amazing little game and I can't wait for Pikmin 3 to come out if that mini game is anything to go by.
We got to world 3 on NSMBU with all star coins in all levels up to that point. Fantastic game but just didn't hold our attention like the aforementioned games did. We kept dipping in and out of it.

I've had the freezing issue happen once on ZombiU and once in the Wii U menu. Both times I had to unplug. Hopefully they'll get it fixed up.
Despite what all the naysayers are saying I like this console. Its fun. It reminds me of another Nintendo console I loved dearly, the Gamecube. If it reaches Super Nintendo levels, that would just be awesome. The fact is the games that are on this console are good

I have no idea what people are moaning about specifically with this console. Sure it's got hardware issues which is a rarity for Nintendo who usually have bullet proof hardware from day one. The PS3 and Xbox 360 both suffered from similar issues at launch. The software selection is one of the best launch lineups I've ever seen. Aside from Sports Connection (or whatever it's called, which for the record I haven't seen in ANY store at all over here) there is not a single bad game to choose from.Jamisonia wrote:I've had the freezing issue happen once on ZombiU and once in the Wii U menu. After playing ZombiU last night, that game has got to be up there with my favourite ever launch titles. It's an unforgettable experience. Unbelievably tense and is as close to true survival horror as you can get. Every facet of the system is shown off wonderfully. If that's just a taste of what's to come I can't wait to see what Ubisoft and Nintendo can come up with.

Nintendo Land is awesome! Over this past weekend we put about 24 hours into it. Would be a bit boring alone but with friends it is excellent. The Mario game is also pretty cool. Haven't tried any other games yet.
Re: Nit Picking on the WII U? thoughts....
The Pikmin game is amazing. Once you finish the main mode you get another extra hard mode which adds elements and other surprises which I won't spoil. That game is worth the price of entry alone. The Yoshi game is the best single player game by far. I was a bit underwhelmed by the Metroid one, it's a bit one dimensional really. Luigi's Mansion ellicited the best response from my friends. The squeels of shock when the ghost gets lit up is always funny, it's even funnier when you're the ghost and you're trying to tag players. Just absolute pure unadulterated joy.ZenErik wrote:Nintendo Land is awesome! Over this past weekend we put about 24 hours into it. Would be a bit boring alone but with friends it is excellent. The amount of negativity on the internet about this console is crazy. Everywhere I go, there is a group of people that are litterally nit picking at every little thing that is "wrong" while ignoring everything great about it. One of the biggest "complaints" is the "long load times", sure it takes a few seconds to get through the menus, but it isnt like it ruins the console, and will most likely be patched soon. It seems that the Wii left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouth, and want to take it out on Nintendo's next console without giving it a chance. Its been said before, no modern console has been perfect at launch, there are bugs to work out with pretty much anything these days so get over it.
The best thing I can say, is dont knock it untill you try it, get a real idea of the console before regurgitating information from the internet. I swear, people want this console to fail for some reason.

I would guess the majority of the people that keep harping on negatives do not even have a Wii U(Also not talking about people here but just in general). They just read something somewhere and keep talking about it. People are still talking about the 5GB update that never existed. There is a certain crowd of people out there that just want to Nintendo to fail so that they stop making hardware which is never going to happen. I guess they think if they wish hard enough they can will it to happen.
I hate to break it to that crowd but I'd bet it all that even if Nintendo stopped making consoles they wouldn't release their games for other consoles. They would just make handheld games instead.
For me there are two main issues. Load times. I wish they were faster but I guess I can wait thirty seconds to play a game. I'm sure this will be addressed at some point. Second issue is getting dropped from Sonic multiplayer matches. I am going to pick up a USB Ethernet adapter at some point because it is annoying when it happens. I haven't had a freeze or anything like that in days so I assume that turning Miiverse settings to English only actually worked.

Re: Nit Picking on the WII U? thoughts....
Way back when I mentioned it I did actually time some of the launching and closing on Wii U and compared it to my PS3. PS3 was slower except when loading netflix. The PSStore takes longer to load than eShop. The friends list takes longer to load. The system takes longer to boot up. The only thing it consistently did faster was go back to the home menu ... but they were still really comparable.
So, the load times aren't really bad ... they're just ... un-nintendo-like.
To note .. none of the load times hit 30 seconds for me except for Netflix. The longest anything else took was like 25 seconds, most stuff only took about 18.
There's a lot of room in the hardware to improve these times, I think Nintendo is just focusing on actually getting everything going first. This is also the first RC version of the Wii U's OS ... so it will get better over time.

For the record, the whole speed of the system, and stability, improved exponentially by using a USB-Ethernet adapter for me. Seems the Wii U's wireless isn't all that great.Octopod wrote: For me there are two main issues. Load times. I wish they were faster but I guess I can wait thirty seconds to play a game.
