More relevant.

Stick with it for a minute. Payoff isn't bad.

Well, we had a day of joy.

From Dark Horizons

Ready for the first wrinkle in the Disney-Lucasfilm deal?

While Disney will own and release future films in the "Star Wars" series, the deal does NOT include the distribution rights to the pre-existing "Star Wars" films.

Those rights remain with 20th Century Fox. In fact, Fox owns distribution rights to the original 1977 "Star Wars" film in perpetuity in all media worldwide.

It also has theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights worldwide to the other five films in the series through May 2020.

This means Disney can't issue a 'complete saga' set unless a deal with Fox is made. It also means fan hopes for quality Blu-ray editions of the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy are highly unlikely.

Fox also plans to still re-release the 3D versions of "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith" next Fall.

So Fox owns the original forever, and the others until 2020. Well, even so, without Lucas in the way an original cut Blu-Ray release could still happen.

I guarantee Fox and Disney work out a distribution arrangement, I mean they do have the 3D versions around the corner.

I'm not sure there's any way that getting the original cuts are less likely now than they were a week ago. I mean the biggest obstacle in the way of releasing them has always been Lucas, and with him not there, the only thing really in the way is some legal mumbo that i'm sure they'd work around if someone wanted it to happen.

I see. I went back, skipped ahead, and watched the rest. The initial Jar Jar was so annoying I really just had to hit stop. There's some serious self loathing in that video.

So I guess now arguments are ensuing over whether the new movie will be based on or accept the books that were written that Lucas put his "canon stamp of approval" on.

I say, who gives a shit. Can't there be two canons?

No, we must have a Thrawn trilogy. Only 1 canon! :-P
