Well, I beat it. Fun game overall, but like Gamerforlife said... you gotta grind (or at least I had to grind). Which means repeating missions, thankfully many of them only take a minute or so.

I think I may have been a bit overleveled at the end - I was level 89, though I'm not sure that 99 is the cap...
Overall great game, but not perfect. The screen gets a bit too cramped at times and I felt as if I did a lot of mindless button mashing during certain quests. And some parts felt a bit too chaotic, with bombs exploding and enemies flying all over the screen. Oh, and screw the escort mission sidequests. They suck.

I thought there was going to be a "final final" boss, as the final boss flees after defeat, so I spent a bunch of time grinding levels for the final main quest. Turns out the final quest is just an ending cut scene, ooops!
I loved the characters, artwork, and story. The controls were nice and tight too.

I'm not crazy about beat-em-ups so I'm not sure where this ranks amongst others in the genre.

I still have lots of stuff I could do in the game, like finishing more sidequests or playing with different characters. Think I'll take a break for now though.

One of my favorites of 2012. Give it a try. btw I played for just under 12 hours.

And where the hell is my undead knight? Sure could use him in some of these bullshit boss battles
XCOM has some actually decent escort missions. The target doesn't seem to become eligible for enemy targeting until you move a unit within 3 squares, and then you get full control to have them stay near your soldiers and only move as far as you're comfortable with.

I keep hearing about XCOM but don't know what to make of it (probably because of its origins on PC). Is it a real time strategy game? A strategy rpg? A lot of what I hear sounds strategy rpg-ish (like characters dying permanently Fire Emblem style)

I was, put it away for now. Finished the campaign and the majority of the sidequests. Most of the ones I didn't (other than locked ones from playing other characters) were rage-inducing festivals of bullshit.

Kinda wish it was on practically any other current system to let the in-game graphics shine a bit more and not be under near-constant slowdown.

This echoes how I feel about the game. After finishing campaign mode with Solange, trying the other three characters, and doing some sidequests I got bored with CoP. I don't think the game has much staying power to anyone not interesting in the multi-player stuff.

And yeah, the game has performance issues and everything looks way too cramped on a regular 3DS. Code of Princess is a bit behind the times. There are better 2D beat 'em ups on XBLA/PSN.

I am playing but just like a half an hour or so a night. I kind of thought the game wouldn't be worth $40 and if I beat it in one day after a few hours then I would really feel that way so I am stretching it out. It is fun and the dialog is humorous at times but it doesn't seem like a great game right now to me. I bet the multiplayer would be fun though.

I have to say that it doesn't really looked cramped on the XL and I haven't noticed any slowdown but maybe that will happen later if battles start to include many more opponents.

Later parts of the game with more enemies on the screen and online sessions with several players and enemies bring the game to a crawl. Inputs have a definite lag and the action turns into a slideshow. Thankfully the block command seems to take priority over every other action. No matter how insane things get, the block command will almost always win until things clear. Out of the maybe 20 online sessions I have played, I only felt like I was unfairly crushed during one of them.

That said, the slowdown isn't any worse than Guardian Heroes on the Saturn and I've been happily playing that game for almost two decades.

Code of Princess is slower and more deliberate. This might annoy some who are approaching it as a direct successor to the original Guardian Heroes, but the slower pacing and simplified inputs work well within the context of the handheld nature the game was designed around. Things are still complex enough for you to devise tactics to defeat enemies both human or AI. Mashing will only net you so much enjoyment. Learning the lengthy combos and juggles as well as how to incorporate the burst and lock on strikes is essential to really appreciate the gameplay. A lot of the slower pacing is alleviated through item manipulation and stat building.

Make no mistake, however. It does turn into a grind fest after the original story mode is complete. If you are a fan of the gameplay and you enjoy Diablo-like endless grinding, it should entertain you for hours. I would be hard pressed to recommend CoP to anyone who will only play it offline in single player. Like Guardian Heroes, the campaign is only half of the overall experience. You really have to hop online or connect via ad-hoc to dive into co-op or versus battle to receive everything this game has to offer.

I played this once right after launch and then let it sit to collect dust. Fired it up again last night. I'm diggin' it.
