Re: Top 100 Martial Arts movies
Has Samurai Fiction already been given a shout-out? Great flick with amazing soundtrack, hilarious characters and is in good old B&W.

Re: Top 100 Martial Arts movies
Ok, really? 8 fucking pages of martial arts movies, and not a single one of you has mentioned the utter awesomeness that is:

Master of the Flying Guillotine
You should all be ashamed. Though the list is redeemed by containing The Last Dragon. Bruce Leroy Green is phenomenal, and if you've never heard of Sho Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, you should do yourself a serious favor and watch the movie.
And since it was asked, Ip Man 2 is excellent and well worth watching.
And while we're at it, a few samurai films you missed: Goyokin, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Seven Samurai, all 7 Lone Wolf and Cub films, Izo, 47 Ronin, The Hidden Blade, The Twilight Samurai, Love and Honor, Ran, Throne of Blood, Red Sun, Red Lion, Shinsengumi, Samurai 1, Sukiyaki Western Django, Sword of Doom
I've seen all of those, and they're all excellent. Harakiri is also sitting next to me...I need to get around to watching it.

I will second this, and I cannot believe that I left it out a few posts ago... Flying Guillotine is awesome. (For a while, Wal-Mart was selling a "Protect ya Neck" Flying Guillotine collection for $5...so awesome...)
I am also glad to see another Samurai movie fan (especially one that enjoys The Twighlight Samurai). He should check out the rest of the Samurai Trilogy, Kagemusha, and - the movie my wife and I watched last night - Revenge. (Also, let me know your thoughts on Harakiri. That one is in my Netflix queue right now and I cannot wait to see it.)
Finally, I'm adding:
A Touch of Zen
The original martial arts epic, and a favorite of Richard Corliss (Time magazine's famous film critic).
Re: Top 100 Martial Arts movies
I've seen parts of Kagemusha, but I didn't include it as I never saw the complete film. I've been kicking myself for years for not getting around to seeing the sequels to Samurai 1. They're on the list of stuff to watch, but it's a pretty long list. I will definitely tell you if Harakiri is good or not.
Oh, have you seen any of the Hanzo the Razor or The Crimson Bat series? I think Hanzo has seen a few DVDs released in the west, but nothing on the Crimson Bat movies, which from what I've heard is basically a female Zatoichi.
Anyway, I love Japanese cinema in general, and samurai film is a large favorite of mine! Getting out of the martial arts stuff, if you like gunplay and interesting cinematography, check out films like Tokyo Drifter. And then there's Takashi Miike's direct-to-DVD years. Osaka Tough Guys is a personal favorite.

Tokyo Drifter...

If you like that, you absolutely must see Seijin Suzuki's Branded to Kill. It is like a film adaptation of No More Heroes (Wii) set in mid-1960s Tokyo. (I am pretty sure that Goichi Suda borrower the premise from the film.) There aren't any beam katanas or anything like that, but the movie is nonetheless completely insane - and I absolutely love it.
It is well worth seeking out the second two parts of the Samurai Trilogy. They really compromise one very awesome, very epic film. The second installment has the most swordplay, but the duel at the end of the third film is incredible. (The same holds for Kagemusha. I watched it in two parts, and I did not actually enjoy it until the second half.)
I haven't seen the Hanzo the Razor or Crimson Bat, but you clearly have excellent taste in film; so, I will seek them out.
I am a little hesitant on the Takahashi Miike films. My wife and I are ambivalent toward The Happiness of the Katakuris, and I mean to watch Audition at some point (by myself, I am not sure my wife is a little queasier than me). We have 13 Assassins in our instant queue, but we have not yet watched it.
