I also recently tried Gradius and Gradius II, after giving a bit of time to the arcade versions, and these are really impressive conversions for an 8-bit system.
Life Force? Or did you import the Famicom version?
Famicom only game...

For shame.
...and no mention of Seicross...and only one mention of Terra Cresta and Mag Max...seriously, this thread needs some love for the Nihon Bussan shmups.

Oh man, Seicross. I used to play that to death when I was a kid but it's not in my collection today. I need to rectify that.

It was such a strange game but I'd play it for hours on end. I have the song stuck in my head just thinking about it.

I used to always want to play Mag Max because it was in quite a few comic book advertisements (along with Seicross which I already loved) back in the day but I never got the chance until I was much older.

Gradius II has some pretty mean graphics for a Famicom game.

Life Force has this weird position of being an "unofficial" sequel to Gradius on the NES. It's not Gradius II, but since Gradius II didn't make it here, many people assumed it was Gradius II, kind of like SMB2.
dunpeal2064 wrote:Oh, yeah, I was talking about the import. I just use my Wii for my retro gaming though, as it actually outputs a better image than my NES, and I can get 480p out of it on the LED when my gf is crashed out on the room where my CRT is.

Now my NES just sits in a corner with its stack of games. Poor NES.
You should put those carts to good use. :P

I thought you thought Crisis Force is Life Force. That's why I said Crisis Force is Famicom only...

Nevermind...

I've played through that game recently. Killer game with classic NES challenge.

Pshaw!

I forgot about Star Force, Seicross, and I have Magmax. Too bad UFO Robo Dangar couldn't make it onto the NES.

Was the Nihon Bussan love already represented by Terra Cresta? I think someone already mentioned that one.

Yeah...but only once. Given how many times Gradius, Life Force, etc. have been mentioned, I thougt Nihon Bussan could use some more attention.

I thought Life Force was part of the Salamander series rather than the Gradius series proper?
