Have you played the original for NES, or Link's Awakening on Game Boy/Gameboy Color? They're both really good and very similar in gameplay style.KillemallCFH wrote:Link to the Past is the only Zelda game I've enjoyed enough to finish. Ocarina of Time bored the shit out of me.

Agreed, but also include Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Some would also include Minish Cap, but I found it too annoying.BurningDoom wrote:Have you played the original for NES, or Link's Awakening on Game Boy/Gameboy Color? Oh yeah, those are great too. And personally, I enjoyed Minish cap more than the Oracle games. But I was trying to just mention the best of those, which IMO are the original and Link's Awakening.o.pwuaioc wrote:Agreed, but also include Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. I can't remember a single thing about Minish Cap despite beating it and not liking it that much. Definitely the downfall of handheld Zelda's in my opinion. The Oracle games were amazing and Link's Awakening still blows my mind considering how advanced it was for that limited hardware. And I just loved the story.
Re: Classic Games That You Didn't Like?
I was also one of the people who Zelda 64 bored the piss out of and I bought it when it first came out so I'm not jaded by the awful graphics or anything (even though they were disgustingly bad even for the time... par for the course with the N64). I loved the SNES game to death from start to finish. I was able to play the DS Zelda games longer than I could Zelda 64, but I could never maintain interest long enough to complete them.
And about Street Fighter II being cheap... try playing some SNK fighting games. They are mega cheap. The cheapest I've personally seen is SvC Chaos. The later characters keep doing the same move over and over and over and there is no way to get past it (some dude keeps throwing a tornado at me and saying the same thing again and again and again as if it's going out of style). A poorly programmed and unbalanced game that I paid $160 for. But in my experience, Neo Geo games rarely have that "polish" of a finely tuned game.

That's Goenitz. The phrase he repeats while spamming the tornado attack is "koko desu ka?" (are you here?). He's honestly not that cheesy...when he starts spamming the tornados, you turtle in the corner and counter when he's done. Mr. Karate's hien shippuu kyaku is ideal for this.Redifer wrote:The cheapest I've personally seen is SvC Chaos. Point taken though. The last two characters, Violent Iori (or Violent Ken) and Serious Mr. Karate, are extremely overpowered. I lost count on how many tries it took to beat Serious Mr. Karate.
It's true that SVC Chaos is a bit rough. The hit detection is kind of wonky and animations are rather stiff. I'd say that SVC Chaos is probably one of the least polished games that were released later in the AES' life cycle. But I think the system really started hitting its stride around 1996 - a lot of the late release games, with a few exceptions like SVC Chaos and perhaps the Eolith releases, are highly polished products.

I can't stand the early Mortal Kombat games. I found them to be slow and unattractive compared to the Street Fighter series. I always felt that the only thing that really drew people to the game were the Fatalities and stage kills. To this day, I'd still rather play some Street Fighter II over any of the Mortal Kombats.
Chalk me up as another person that didn't like Super Mario 64. I don't think the initial transition into 3d did it for me. I missed the graphics and gameplay style of Super Mario World too much.
I hated Pac-Man at one time, but that has cooled down to a mild dislike. I actually had the original Atari port of Pac-Man, and never realized it was supposed to be the same game that I had seen in the arcade.
Dragon Warrior taught me that RPG's just aren't my thing. I rented it for the weekend one time, and within an hour of trying to play it, I was ready to go back and switch it for another game. I don't have the patience or the attention span for a long drawn out turn based game.
