Breetai, exaggerating the risk of certain activities doesn't make riding a bike any more or less safe.
Around four thousand people die in the US per year while riding a motorbike. Whether that is a worthy risk or not is debatable, however, what isn't debatable is that it's substantially more risky than Japanese earthquakes, lighting strikes and all the examples you listed together.
Specially since riding a bike doesn't override the risk of all the other things you listed.
I'm, not trying to convince you of anything but of stopping use horrible arguments on the internets.

But then there would be no internets left...

I would love to know what percentage of bikers die from traffic accidents, and compare that with cars.
*edit*
Found it!
http://www.edgarsnyder.com/motorcycle-a ... stics.html
Per vehicle mile traveled, bikers are about 37 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash and 9 times more likely to be injured.
*edit*
And one for seatbelts in cars:
http://www.edgarsnyder.com/news/seatbel ... stics.html
Statistics show that seat belts save lives. When used correctly, wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants by 45%, and risk of moderate-to-critical injury by 50%. For those riding in the rear of vans and sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) during a car crash, rear seat belts are 73% better at preventing fatalities. Keep in mind that victims are not properly restrained in more than one-half of all fatal car accidents. Also, children are likely to be buckled 92% of the time when adults in the car use seat belts, as opposed to 72% of the time when adults are not using them.

Norris, I think you missed my point. I suspect that Inazuma got it, but maybe he didn't? The point of all those rather silly examples was to say that of course there are risks in life, but sometimes it is worth taking a few of those risks in order to live a more enriched life.
Which risks to take is entirely up to the individual, although if it causes substantial risk to others then it should be reconsidered. Some people like classic cars with no seatbelts. Some like to enjoy riding a motorbike (MUCH less risky if you don't drive like a 19 year old who thinks they're invincible). Some like to pick up as many girls as they can and rely (or not...) on condoms for protection. Some snowboard or ski (plenty of people are injured doing this. Some do downhill mountain biking (very high injury rate!). Some go sky diving. On and on.
For the record, I am all about seatbelts. I am not about bringing a kid with you on a motorbike on the road. I am all about helmets. I think drinking and driving is a stupid idea (1/3 of motorbike accidents involved alcohol). BUT... regarding the seatbelt and helmet thing, I kind of think it should be a personal choice. The other ones should have some legal guidelines (law), as there is a potential for others to be hurt as a direct result of the action.
but of stopping use horrible arguments on the internets.

Given that this is really off topic, and anyone here who rides motorbikes is not going to care about the statistics being posted here (we have seen them all!!!!), what is the point of even bringing up this argument?
The thread is about a cop making up rules as he goes along and thinking he can get away with it, despite being shown that he was in the wrong.
