Ok guys, hold off on the language. I ask that all of you be civil and respectful towards each other. Because let's face it, some of us live in England while others of us have little to no idea of what's been happening there, yet we all have thoughts on it. No need to harass each other over it.

Because these are important international and cultural issues. I would like to see the countries of Europe eliminate unrestricted migration between nations, return to their own monetary systems and not be subjected to an international organization that robs them of their sovereignty and national identity.

Don't be surprised when Germany wants out.

Didn't that way of doing things in the 20th Century help lead to two world wars and then to economic problems for much of Europe? What do you have against the Euro?

It would probably be incorrect to view the matter in such simplicity. The problems of the late 19th century and early 20th century are not exclusive to the fact that distinct cultures existed and nation states represented said cultures. Empires were at their peak, most nations were in a confusing transitional period from Monarchy to democracy, statesmanship was particularity poor in the early 1900s, Baltic peoples were rebelling against oppression, alliances were made without thinking them through and so on. And while I certainly haven't covered everything, the point is that maintaining culture and identity doesn't automatically lead to war, and therefor shouldn't be destroyed.

As for the Euro, it props up weaker countries at the expense of the stronger ones. Each nation should have a currency that accurately reflects their financial realities.

How miserable can somebody be to want to dictate the way somebody else lives his life?

I don't go around saying the US should break up cause it's unfair for other states to pay for California's dept. Why do you care so much, when you don't freaking live here? Europe made you mad?

Europe's financial issues have tangible repercussions over here. When you guys screw yourselves over, it hurts us as well. There's nothing ridiculous about Americans complaining about the way Europe acts.

Well unfortunately for you, many people who actually live in Europe share my sentiments. I "care" because the world isn't in some vacuum were international events don't have any meaning. If you want to support the EU, go for it. I didn't tell you to change your political views, I just answered your question as to why I cared. If you can't handle the answer then don't ask follow ups.
