You need to do at least three playthroughs to get all the items from boss souls. Everything else can be farmed in a single playthrough, but maxing up every upgrade path requires a lot of farming of the super rare drop slabs.

I had a phantom help me with Ornstein and Smough and unfortunately he didn't watch me to see which guy I wanted to kill first, so now I can't get the Dragonslayer Spear I wanted until next playthrough. It strikes me as bad etiquitte, especially since he was so helpful for the rest of the map (summoned him at the start, he made sure I got all the treasures).

Just got the Drake sword yesterday and am having a blast with it. I've only fought one boss so far, I keep getting distracted. :P

I killed Ornstein first as well - his final form seemed to be way too much for me.

In other news, I have a friend who informed me yesterday morning that he had gotten the platinum trophy in the game. :?

What sword are you using for endgame or wherever you are? I stuck with the drake sword for longer than I should (as do most people, I think), and I recently made the Quelaag's Furysword, which seems nice. Damage increases with humanity levels though, which isn't always something you have.

Right now I'm using a couple weapons, depending on the situation. My current catch-all is a Lightning Pike +5. It's got fantastic reach, doesn't drop my guard when I attack, and there aren't many enemies in the game resistant to lightning. Just like the Drake Sword, the bases are high enough to make up for the lack of scaling, though I suspect in a NG+ I'd want a scaling weapon, like the aformentioned Dragon Slayer Spear. My standard switch is a Lifehunter Scythe +5. This this is pretty nuts when used correctly. It inflicts 50 bleed per hit, and when that overwhelms the target's defence it deals 50% of their max health. It also scales pretty well, so it's not too far behind my Pike. The only problem is that it inflits 40 bleed on me for every successful hit, and if that overcomes my defences it'll do the same 50% of my max health. Right now I only use it for certain tough mobs that take more than 4ish hits from my pike. If I wanted to start using it more regularly I could wear the bleed resist ring and the bleed resist shield (gotta buy the ring, have the shield), but I currently really like my Eagle Shield. I'd need to upgrade the blood resist shield to make it comperable. Oh, and several bosses are NOT immune to the bleed effect. Finally, for the Catacombs I have a Divine Whip +5, and whenever I go through the Catacombs I put Vampire Killer on a loop.

Well, I'm way behind, but I finally got this over the weekend. Trying to not read any of the endgame posters to avoid spoilers. Lol.

So I just rang the first bell, and went down into the catacombs. Good lord its brutal down there.

Are you guys doing convenants of any kind? I haven't found anyone that let's you join yet. My friend said there is one for the Convenant of the White in the Firelink Shrine area but I haven't seen them.

I've only done three so far - there is the way of the white in firelink shrine, but I *think* you have to be human to join. The guy who sells miracles by the pots lets you.

There is another one by the second bell, hidden behind a wall you have to strike (there's an NPC behind it who uses the same model as an enemy, but he's friendly!) and the one that Gwynevere in Anor Londo lets you join, although that one isnt a secret since you have to talk to her at some point in the story

Is he kind of a portly dude? If so, yeah he wouldn't talk to me when I was undead and I haven't been back as human yet. I'll let you know!

Its the guy that has the knight shield, if that helps.
