I've decided I really like the way they've made sonic control. If you're moving at a moderate speed he controls pretty tightly, but as you run your speed can build a whole lot, and at higher speeds he takes on a race car type movement.

One of my favorite levels so far is probably the first. It's mostly 3D, but it feels sort of like a high-speed crash bandicoot. I think if they designed the levels sort of like a racing game/crash bandicoot platformer with some large explorable areas throughout, they might be able to make the best 3D sonic game yet. They should take a page from F-zero or Extreme G and have the camera follow you through loops and curves more though. Pulling out during every loop makes it feel like you're watching not playing (which you are).

I'm seriously enjoying the game right now. For once, everything in a 3D Sonic game just feels "right". For example, it is unanimously agreed upon that the dialogue in Sonic games sucks, but for once, it feels natural, and doesn't make your ears bleed! In fact, it's actually somewhat witty at times! I tried out every controller configuration so far, and in my opinion, the Gamecube controller works the best, and the Wiimote alone is the worst, due to the D-Pad, which is terrible for precise movement at high speed. The graphics are pretty, the colors are bright, most of the music is classic Sonic-esque techno, and it all comes together to be a great game; something the Sonic series desperately needs right now. I'm really glad I pre-ordered the game, so I could finally be able to support a good game in the series. That, and the hat. Which is awesome.

I just played a ton of it today and can safely say I freaking love it.

Best 3D Sonic since the Adventure era installments? I'm very much leaning towards yes.

I like where all this talk is going. When I saw the early previews of this game I got this weird feeling that I couldn't quite place. It felt like...hope.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I thought the dialogue was a little over the top cheesy but they obviously had a good time poking fun at the whole sonic concept. Seems like sonic acts a little too dumb though. I always thought the personality they gave him in the saturday morning cartoon was spot on, even if they couldn't draw the right amount of spikes to save their lives.

I honestly felt the same way, and I'm glad that feeling actually turned into a realization - that there is a great, modern Sonic game that can really compete with Mario. I'm loving the DS version, the controls are just so spot on (don't get me wrong, I'm digging the Wii version as well). Also, best pre-order EVER! Thanks Sonic Team!

Hey guys, since so many of you are loving it so much, I was wondering if you could help me with something? If you can, I would appreciate it.

My brother has autism and has some difficulties playing some games now. Growing up back in the days of the Mega Drive and NES etc, he never really had too much of a problem. Even with the Playstation actually. But it seems that games have just got increasingly complicated. It's something that I and possibly most of you (but I don't want to speak on your behalf) haven't really noticed, but it becomes so obvious when you know someone with disabilities that likes to game.

Anyways onto my point, my brother absolutely loved the Sonic games on the Mega Drive (Genesis) growing up, he got on ok with the Sonic levels in the Sonic Adventure games and he enjoys Sonic Rush on his DS. So I bought him Sonic Unleashed when it came out thinking he would enjoy it, but for some reason he just couldn't get into it, mostly because he found it difficult. For example there were like a million different moves to learn etc as opposed to the older Sonic games up until Sonic Heroes I think where you literally just ran and jumped on baddies - over-simplification I know, but hopefully you know what I mean.

I heard that Sonic Colors is more "child friendly" and aimed at a much younger audience. So I was just wondering how true this is? And how does the gameplay differ from that of Sonic Unleashed? Hopefully you'd just be able to give some insight if possible. You see, my brother can play hard games ok, it's just overly complicated games (that might not even be that hard) that he can get stuck with. If that makes sense. For example, a "hard" game on the Mega Drive, he could play relatively happily, because games then were hard because they were hard, not because they were overly complicated. If that makes sense. Or take Mario games, like Mario Galaxy 2. That's supposed to be really hard, but I've watched play that quite happily, although he does get stuck at times.

I'm hoping because Sonic Colors is really bright and colorful and looks like it's quite child friendly, he might enjoy it more than Sonic Unleashed. And I'm sure the fact Sonic Unleashed was crap didn't help either. Sorry, for the long post anyways and thanks.

Well it's got the switching viewpoints and different types of controls in different sections. Plus the 8 wisp powers.

So A jumps, and pushing it again double jumps. Unless you're in range of an enemy, then A does the homing attack. Pushing B does a dash attack that builds speed, and pushing X in the air makes sonic do a downward attack that breaks through crates and stuff. In certain high speed sections the control will switch to a left right dash thing, where instead of having direct control of sonic you tap left or right and he switches to a different plane. Sort of like how when you're grinding pushing left or right makes him automatically jump to another rail. When you're running at high speed in other areas sonic sort of controls like a race car where you have to curve him around corners as opposed to the adventure games where he just controls like mario on steroids all the time. I don't know how it compares to unleashed as far as controls go, I only played a one level demo of that. But it's definitely more complicated than the genesis games and probably the adventure games.

You'd probably be better off with Sonic 4 or the DS version of colors.

Thank you for the thorough answer, I really appreciate that. I could be wrong, it's been a while since I've played it, but that sounds a lot like the controls of Sonic Unleashed, although I'll assume they're more refined on Colors since it's getting much more positive responses.

I was just thinking for Christmas, but I'll see what other Wii games are out there. I think you might be right, it's probably better for him to get the DS version or/and Sonic 4. Thanks.
