You must not understand what new means. Everything you mentioned is an upgrade not new. Online play was before the PS3 and the XBOX360. Did you not own a Xbox which also had a harddrive , DVD playback, HD and xbox live? When SNES and Genesis upgraded to A/V instead of RF did you even use it then? None of my TV's had A/V in only coaxial it wasn't till 95 that I had a TV with A/V. Its the same with HD most people still do not own an HDTV. That means they are paying for a feature they don't even use. Only 2 of the games you mentioned are new as "bring something new to the table" as you mentioned Little Big Planet and Viva Pinata the rest are the same types of game we were playing 10 years ago. The wii games if they are the same ole same they still make it feel new by new control aspect. Playing a FPS on the 360/PS3 is just like playing one since 2000 where as on the Wii its a new experience. DVD players are like $20 buck now why do you still need DVD playback? Can you play Lets Tap, Warioware, Wii sports on the XBOX360 or PS3? I am sorry you want a cosole to be a PC since you can get one with all the features that 360 and PS3 have and most of the games. Could the PC play a Wii like game? Wii took all we know about console and changed it: A system dosen't have to have a graphical leap to be better, a system doesn't have to have DVD playback to garner sales, a system controller doesn't have to just be push this button to do that. I think of the Wii like Taco Bell motto "Think outside the Box". Just like Taco bell it offers a different fastfood experience and is generally cheaper then most fastfood places. You can get a Hamburger and fries almost anywhere but how many can you go to to get a chessy gordita crunch. THe PS3/XBOX360 thought inside the box lets do what we did last time and just do it better. The Wii was lets offer the consumer a new experience not cutting edge graphics that will be outdated anyway in 5 years. Remember we are a retro community game play is all we care about.kingmohd84 wrote:I am not sure how graphics can't be included, specially this generation since it is a Jump to HD, something totally new you need a special TV set for. It is also funny that you mention "Every system ever made always tried to improve those aspects", because yes, every one except the Wii.pepharytheworm wrote:To understand what you mean by failure tell us which current gen systems are a success. Then tell us whats new that they brought to the table and you better not say graphics or better visual output because thats not new. Every system ever made alway tried to improve those aspects.
But here is what:
360/ps3: Online gameplay and communities, xbox live and ps3 Home. You can send messages, chat, voice messages, join and invite to games, view games owned and achievement scores. Everyone is upset with Wii's online gameplay
360/ps3: They both bring online video rental services
360/ps3: Mass storage to work as media center, Wii can't play dvds.
ps3: Brings Bluray, its so new it wasn't the standard when it came out. Count the HD out, it utilizes new menu options and has unbelievable storage capacity for a disc.
Lets look at the NEW exciting IPs:
PS3: Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Demon's Soul, Resistance , Heavenly sword, Valkyria Chronicles, InFamous, Heavy Rain to come
360: Gears of War, Kameo, Viva Pinata, Crackdown, and Alan Wake to come
Now Lets look at the combined NEW IPs that were simply not possible on the Wii:
Assassin's Creed, BioShock, Boyonetta, Borderlands, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, The Darkness, FEAR, Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata, Prototype, Brutal Legends, Saints Row, Lost Planet

I demand good games! Could care less about the console power or innovation really.
Thanks everyone...

We all know that gaming peaked with the SNES. All three consoles are failures compared to that box of pure sex.

Bah... SNES didn't have Street Fighter III: Third Strike on it. Although it did have Street Fighter Alpha 2, which is almost as good.MrPopo wrote:We all know that gaming peaked with the SNES. All three consoles are failures compared to that box of pure sex.
The Wii's problem is that it became a haven for shovelware far too early on. Also, after the first year, the line-up dried out quickly. The only notable titles that game out on the Wii after its first year, in my opinion, would be Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii (Although I personally hated Mario Kart Wii compared to Double Dash). It's starting to re-surge with titles like Muramasa and TvC, but it's too little, too late in my opinion.
