Yup, that's the one. Best story, characters and gameplay out of all Final Fantasy games. And Kefka was a great villain as well.

Instead of making a new post. I have finally made it to the PS2 Final Fantasy games. I have both X and XII. Which one is better to play first?

I would rank the previous games as follows: VII, IV, VI, IX, I and I hated absolutely hated VIII.

So again I ask which of the PS2 ones should I play first?

Hmmm, I would say FF X maybe. FF12 is a pretty big departure from what came before, which is why I'd say play FF X first. FF12 has some gameplay elements from MMORPGs and something called a gambit system that allows the game to automatically control party members based on whatever specific actions you want them to take. It also has no random battles in favor of you seeing enemies onscreen and approaching them to initiate combat. FF12 was kind of experimental in a lot of ways. If you're looking for a hardcore challenge, it has some seriously tough optional bosses too. Some that WILL take at least an hour to kill

Personally, I love both games, but FF X is easier to get into and has a stronger, more character based story. While FF12's story is strong on plot and a bit weak on character development. FFX is kind of linear though, which you may not like. FF12 is much more nonlinear, and you can wander into areas and enemies that are way over your head by accident LOL. Oh, and when you get around to playing FF12, don't open any chests when you start playing. Google Zodiac Spear and you'll know why

I would recommend ff12 over x.
12 is a deeper game overall, both in terms of story and side-quests

I enjoyed it. Personally, the only FF game I ever played that I thought was genuinely bad was FFX 2, and even that game had some good things going for it.

FF8 has that really cool Triple Triad game which was cool and I didn't have a problem with the junction system

Ironically, FF9, often praised by the same people who hate FF8 didn't wow me. It wasn't bad in any way, but just didn't grab me for some reason. It's the only FF game that I didn't go the distance with(doing all sidequests, maxing out characters, collecting everything, etc.)

I would say X then XII. I don't like one better than the other, in fact I enjoy them both. Very much in fact. I say X first though so you can see how the series evolved as the games came out. From menu based, ATB system to an almost MMORPG RTB system. Then you can go to XIII to see the evolution go a step further. Just my opinion, if you can play them in order, do play them in order.

As far as games in the series, favorite all time is IV (2 U.S). It was the reason I got a SNES in the first place. I don't even care about the butchered translation. It was bright, colorful, great storyline, epic battles, engaging battle system, and I was at the point in my life where I was all about anything AD&D, Tolkein, fantasy based fiction crap I could get my hands on and FF2 fit the bill. I still think it's one of the more epic scenes in gaming history when Cecil goes from Dark Knight to Paladin.

After that, I enjoy VI(3), V, I, VII, X, XII and Tactics....not really in any particular order.

So I'm playing X now and I have to say after playing the first blitzball tournament game I wanted to quit.
Sometimes side crap like blitzball ticks me off. I didn't mind side quests in the old FF games and didn't mind trying to defeat the "Weapons" in FF VII, but learning a game within a game is annoying. I want to play FF style role-playing not learn a new sport style role-play.
I am not going to give up, unless blitzball plays a large role in my game playing experience.

Blitzball is only necessary that one time. I hated blitzball too.

Blitzball is actually fun, but they did a bad job of introducing it into the game and a bad job of explaining it. It's really easy when you recruit players and learn the tricks to beating the AI and it's fun to see Tidus and Wakka's ultimate blitzball moves if you stick with it long enough

But yeah, blitzball is optional after that point in the story so don't worry about it. They seem to be really moving away from mini-games in recent FF games. FF13 has ONE mini-game that is required by the story and it is so short and easy it's ridiculous
