Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I usually don't listen when people hype up about the games and then fall for victim after the releases. Because hype is usually overthinking that the game will be somewhat better and puts the ceiling way up higher than it should be. I just patiently wait for the release, then play through the game and usually what i've noticed is that a lot of games i've played that way, i always end up with an unpopular opinion. I loved Mass Effect: Andromeda, FInal Fantasy XIII, Assassin's Creed the whole franschise. Don't let the hype get to you
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Not a fan really if 2 of your 3 listed at the end of that last post, but I never really got the hate for FF13. I mean Hope was a whiny ass earlier into it, but he's also a sheltered kid. I liked how the game played and the story progression.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I hate FF13's characters and how gated the first near 30 hours are, but after that I thought the combat system was amazing. The game also wowed me when Square Enix used to be impressive on the production/technical side of things, but I didn't feel that at all for FF15.
The FF13 trilogy also has some God tier OST's. Originally I hated them because I couldn't get over my Uematsu fanboyism, but now years later the FF13 scores are still some of my favorites to frequent. Nothing else quite like those OST's.

Personally, I think they're probably the best characters in any of the mainline Final Fantasy games. (I am in the unpopular opinions thread, right-- ok, good.)Xeogred wrote:I hate FF13's characters
Yeah it was!Xeogred wrote:I thought the combat system was amazing.
I fired 13 up for the first time in maybe six years, after finishing off 6, and was pretty immediately floored by the audio and visuals. It looks and sounds a bit better than I even remember.Xeogred wrote:The FF13 trilogy also has some God tier OST's.

I'm glad at lest one other person feels this way, I completely agree.pierrot wrote: Personally, I think they're probably the best characters in any of the mainline Final Fantasy games.
I actually agree with the whole post, as the combat system was killer, and the OST is gorgeous.
I know its not a game for everyone, but I hope the auto-hate for this game goes away. FFX kinda had this, too, but now its a loved gem, so I guess there is hope.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Well if you guys ever get bored I'd love to be convinced on why the FF13 characters are good, lol. I wonder if they're better in Japanese and maybe it was the English VO's that rubbed me wrong. Just seemed like they were all emo or super self righteous, barely even getting along (Gundam Wing anyone? I hate that series too!), and everyone had some annoying emotional breakdown at some point, even Sazh. Fang is the only character that never annoyed me and I liked Vanille a lot, though tend to see she gets tons of hate too. Also the villain was horrible... Bartsomething, some old guy that just randomly pops up. The story had so many made up words and pseudo science but unlike Xenogears just wasn't good to me. Cool world though, unlike FF15's Iowa.
Contrast to FF13-2 which had Serah, Noel, and Caius, that game was a homerun for me.
I haven't finished Lightning Returns because I couldn't stomach the Lightning and Hope combo.
(everytime she popped up in FF13-2 I just rolled my eyes)

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I never played any Final Fantasy title after 12, and I haven't really sat down and out time into any since FF10, so I don't have an opinion either way on FF13. My tastes changed, and I stopped focusing on new JRPGs somewhere in the mid-2000s. Older, yes, I have still been playing those. But I think Wild Arms 3 may be the "newest" JRPG to really capture my attention.

Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are both on my radar. Someday...

Last Story, by the same team, is also well worth checking out. And its a reasonable length at around 23 hours, too!
