Pretty sure I'd say this is the scariest game I've ever played. Enough that I quit. But I will try again. This game terrifies me, getting to the title screen alone raises my anxiety levels. I played for a bit last night and managed to make a little progress. I also may have screamed out loud a few times, not that anyone would know because in space no one can hear you scream.

I didn't find AI so much scary as it quickly became infuriating (a problem a /lot/ of horror games have, admittedly). For a game that really emphasizes its mechanics and theme around hiding and stealth, the stealth mechanics were far too bad for me to want to stick with it. Add that in with how fighting is heavily discouraged and generally very difficult, and I absolutely understood why opinions about this were so torn at launch.noiseredux wrote:Pretty sure I'd say this is the scariest game I've ever played. Finally jumped on the Yakuza bandwagon with Zero. Just played an hour yesterday and will jump back into it right after writing this. The little that I got to play seemed interesting, I think I will like this series from the get-go by seeing how much everyone else of you likes them.
When not playing Yakuza Zero it's either Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age or Stardew Valley on the Switch. Feeling very good about my current gaming landscape.

I don't know if it was Bone or someone else here that recommended me The Hurricane of the Varstray -Collateral hazard- on Steam...
But this is the most outrageously bad and hilarious shmup I've ever played. The translation is insanely bad.
I played for about 30 minutes and got 41 Steam achievements.
I don't really know what I was doing at all. Bullets and colors littered the screen. I think there's a lot of shield power ups or something because I didn't die much. But I'm pretty sure I wasn't playing the game, it was playing me.
WTF is this game. On paper it looks like a normal bullet hell shmup with hot anime chicks, but I have no idea what was going on.
The damn thing just kept going and I quit after hitting level 13 or something.

I'm not the one who recommended it (I told you to get Mecha Ritz!) but, coincidentally, I did buy The Hurricane of the Varstray a week or so ago. Think it was like 80% off.
I gotta play it now. Sounds awesome.

I anticipate your reaction. I'm not sure if I'll touch it again, but it was pretty amusing for a run.
Just played a bunch of Blaster Master Zero to end the night, up to level 7. I'm assuming I'm near the end since I have most of the power ups and level 8 is the end of the original. This has been awesome for sure. They really leveled up the overhead segments. I like how it humorously mixes up plot elements from both the original Japanese version and the ultra goofy English localization. All in all this is like straight up what I imagined an SNES Blaster Master could have been like, not that crappy Genesis game we got instead.

I'm so tempted to tell you about something, but I don't want to ruin it. Just be sure you're getting all those power ups.Xeogred wrote:I have most of the power ups and level 8 is the end of the original
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: What are you playing?
You're putting ideas in my head.
I'll try to get back to it tomorrow night.

Re: What are you playing?
Phew these last few levels in Blaster Master Zero get pretty long. I was really disappointed with level 7, that's one of my favorites from the original... but the spotlight/stealth gimmicks completely ruined it here haha. 8 was awesome but the overhead stages weren't the best in this version.

@Bone - I also checked out Trouble Witches Origin, I see you own it. That one rocks!
