13 hrs into Grandia II now. I just got to Roan's hometown.
Also I was reading an issue of OSDM last night - the one w/ PSO on the cover, which I believe is #11. At any rate, it's kind of a bummer reading about a lot of the rumors/announcements made at that time. Like Sega was talking about how they wanted the DC to be this console that would get upgrades and revisions rather than just making a "Dreamcast 2." It's almost like they were thinking of the console as a PC - or perhaps took some inspiration from their arcade division.
How is your Dreamcast gaming going on?

Grandia II is not really difficult. I mean as long as you understand the battle system and leveling your skills/magic. Some of the boss battles have been a bit tricky though. But often just require figuring out a proper strategy.RCBH928 wrote: how would you describe the game? difficult? Grinding ? Fun? Sucks you in?
Grinding hasn't really been an issue. There's no random encounters. You see enemies moving on a map and can fight or avoid as desired. A good rule of thumb is "fight everything." Doing so seems to just naturally keep you leveled adequately and never feels grindy.
But fun - goodness, yes. The battle system is easily one of the most enjoyable of any RPG I've played. It's sort of like the ATB system found in FFIV or Chrono Trigger... except I find this way more fun. While it remains totally turn based it as a lot more of an action feel to it.
And yeah, totally sucks you in. The story is enjoyable. But even more comment-worthy is that the voice acting is fantastic. Voice actors include Leonardo from the 80's TMNT cartoon and even The Little Mermaid. Awesome stuff.

That sounds like they were going to repeat the same mistake they did with the genny to me.noiseredux wrote:13 hrs into Grandia II now. I just got to Roan's hometown.

I thought of that too. But it was still an interesting thought. Like, NAOMI was basically DC + more RAM, right? So what if you were able to get some sort of add-on to pretty much make it a home NAOMI? That would've been boss. I think if it had worked like that where there were add-ons to just keep it on par w/ the arcade hardware rather than make new consoles would've been cool.stickem wrote: That sounds like they were going to remake the mistake of the genny to me.
They also talked about how they were trying to branch out and make other formats (PC's, DVD players) Dreamcast-compatible. So the idea was I guess, that if PS2 was making their console a DVD player, then maybe you could pick up a DVD player that also played Dreamcast games. Or maybe there would have been GD-ROM drives you could buy for your PC. Interesting thought anyway.

You made me want to play this game but seeing that prices on ebay are $30+ with shipping it will be total of $50 for me (Outside US) I guess not... maybe on some other system.noiseredux wrote:Grandia II is not really difficult. I remember reading somewhere a while back and for some reason it stuck in my head. That SOJ president initially wanted more Ram in the DC basically it would be a Naomi. I think Sega did envision the DC as a potential to be PC like and to have other features. Even when it met it demise there was talk about incorporating DC technology into other venues. Here's a link to one such idea. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/sega-a ... 0-2681885/
Curtsy when you walk by that Dreamcast
