You have a good store then. I actually had that discussion with a GameStop employee and basically got the take or leave it answer. There was another time that I bought a Gamecube and got a 3rd-Party controller. I basically got the same answer again about it, and I got PISSED. They just got pissed back at me.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:^Read pages 64-present

Also, if any of you are pissed about opened games that are on the shelf as new you do know GameStop can give you a 10% shopworn discount for them if you truly demand it, right? It's in the options for every transaction and we've got little toppers for returned new accessory bags and other things that proudly displays it.
If they try to give you hell call a district manager and make them do it. The process is simple and takes 5 seconds.

I stopped by the local GameStop to check out if they did this and luckily they did not. It is bullshit that ANY store would throw out cases and manuals.

Those third party controllers are atrocious. I think id just say you keep the controller, saves me the trouble of tossing it.BurningDoom wrote:You have a good store then. Well, I did it. I just finished writing a rather lengthy letter to the Gamestop district manager in my area. Hopefully I will get a response. I can post it here, if anyone is interested.

Well, this is embarrassing. I turned off my computer right after I sent the message, and I forgot to save the message to a file.
Is there any way I can retrieve it? I'll see if I can get it back somehow. I hope I will get it back when a reply comes. Is there any way to see letters you have submitted on the GS website?

MS Word and most computer word processors auto-save files in the event of a power outage. Boot it up, open the program you used and see if you can find it.
Also, if you already sent it couldn't you just copy-pasta it from your e-mail outbox?

It was using the website's text box, and all I did was copy it to my clipboard before shutting down. I was about to paste it into Google Docs, but got distracted. Dammit, it was a really good letter, too!Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:MS Word and most computer word processors auto-save files in the event of a power outage. When I visited the page in my history, though, it asked me for a "Survey Access Code". I wasn't sent one, though.

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
woulnt this be like going into a bookstore and buying a book without a hard cover?
Or going into a music store and buying just the cd with no case?
Sadly I've bought some of these games too and I wish they had everything!
Its easier for them to send 300 games in a sleeve than to send 80 of them in cases to your local gamestop. They prioritize the new systems.
This saddens me too, but unfourtunately we are too few to make a dent into huge corporate gamestop! I work for a big box retailer, and it may seem like they care for the customers, really what they want is the bottom line of profits and numbers!
If 100,000 of us collectors got together and complained, they would make a note of it and move on. Gamestop loves kids 6-14 year olds, and they especially love their parents cash! Older adults dont care and dont know about what comes around the game, they just want to please their kid and buy another disc in a few months when it breaks. Parents are Millions of customers! We are just a few. who do you think gamestop will cater to?
Even if Gamestop does listen to us, you know they are going to jack up the price on a game that they sell for $3.00 in a sleeve to over $10+ plus shipping. I doubt they will save all of those empty cases and manuals in some random warehouse just waiting for us to buy them. They want to save on capital, and they dont want to pay rent on some place that has these usless things.
I may give you the pessimistics, but deep down we all know that this is going to continue. This is already happening with DS games and soon enough we will get caseless 360 games! Next gen is coming and and theres profits to be made!

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
just because they're the only game store in your area, doesn't change the definition of "monopoly."BurningDoom wrote:I agree that GameStop is a monopoly. I don't know about other areas, but in California it most definetly is. There's 4 GameStops in my area, and not 1 other gaming store chain, not 1. There's a local a used music shop, and a local used movie store that both happen to sell used games. But they can't compete with GameStop on their level and they're locally owned and operated.
The only other chain I've even heard of that is specifically gaming and still operates is Play-N-Trade, which I have none of which in my area (but would LOVE to have one). All the GameCrazys over here shut down. All the EB Games were bought-out by GameStop, as were all the FuncoLands both years ago.
