I watched Hanna. I think it's a good movie, but not a great one. Hanna seems like one of those movies that is meant to be watched more than once and dissected for its themes and symbolism, kind of like Black Swan. I'm not really into that. I just wanted a good action movie with a decent plot. There is some good action in this movie, but it's pretty tame by action movie standards. In fact, the movie has this annoying habit of delivering musical cues that get you all amped for a big action scene....and then nothing happens. I found the scenes between Hanna and that family she meets rather boring, especially the weird lezzy stuff between the two girls. Plus, the plot doesn't have any particularly surprising twists or reveals as it pretty much spells everything out for you. Also, the movie's final confrontation was anti-climactic. Lastly, the movie's one chance of having an emotional moment between two characters it completely squanders.
I'm not bashing the movie. I did enjoy it, but I expected a bit more based on the buzz the movie got. Hanna felt more style than substance to me. A slick soundtrack, some artsy ideas and a few pretty cool action sequences, but not that many. I would call Hanna overrated, but I still got some enjoyment out of watching it. The performances are certainly great and the few fight sequences, which felt like the only reason you're even watching the movie, were pretty good. I've heard people compare it to Salt, which I think was a better film. This movie was unfortunate enough to be seen by me after having watched Attack the Block, and Hanna simply could not rise to that movie's level of awesomeness. Wasn't a fair fight though, I mean Attack the Block has Nick Frost in it
