It's only going to get worse. Unfortunately, I can promise that.Michi wrote:What? Another one?Luke wrote:Platinum Dunes is rebooting HALLOWEEN...
GAH!
CABIN THE WOODS, to my surprise, is apparently brilliant. I doubt I'll be leaving the theater on 4/13 as there are so many good films that are finally being distributed to nationwide theaters.

somehow you're able to promise the quality of a film that you'll have nothing to do with? Impressive!Luke wrote: It's only going to get worse. Unfortunately, I can promise that.
"is apparently brilliant"? So basing your opinions pre-emptively on critics again, then?CABIN THE WOODS, to my surprise, is apparently brilliant. I doubt I'll be leaving the theater on 4/13 as there are so many good films that are finally being distributed to nationwide theaters.
Though, I am looking quite forward to Cabin In The Woods as well. It has some great talent behind it -- Buffy alum for instance. Though, it's apparently a big mish-mash of horror references, so if you're not a fan of Zombie's work, then this might not resonate with you either.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I'm basing the "it's only going to get worse" comment because I know of the other reboots Platinum Dunes is planning on and what rights they are currently trying to purchase. I had no idea you were such a Bay and Fuller fan.noiseredux wrote: somehow you're able to promise the quality of a film that you'll have nothing to do with? Impressive!

"Apparently brilliant" is a quote from a friend who has similar tastes in movies. Actually, all of my friends who have seen CABIN have been really impressed and have encouraged me to see it. 99% of the time they are right.
And what the Fuck does Zombie have anything to do with CABIN? It's Whedon's love child of Raimi's horror films. Funny how you judge my "pre-emptive" "apparently" post, and the next thing you do is say "apparently a big mish-mash".

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
off the top of my head, couldn't tell you what Bay and Fuller have done, or who they are. I'm just saying I'm not going to write it off based on so little info. And you certainly can't "promise" it will be bad. I'm sure you've been surprised in the past?Luke wrote: I'm basing the "it's only going to get worse" comment because I know of the other reboots Platinum Dunes is planning on and what rights they are currently trying to purchase. I do have high hopes for it. I think it looks great."Apparently brilliant" is a quote from a friend who has similar tastes in movies. Actually, all of my friends who have seen CABIN have been really impressed and have encouraged me to see it. 99% of the time they are right.
I mentioned Zombie because his films tend to be mish-mashes of horror cliches/references... homages, much like what Whedon is doing here. I was just saying that if you aren't a fan of the "horror-film-as-mixtape" thing, then maybe you won't like this. And what the Fuck does Zombie have anything to do with CABIN? EDIT: btw, is Cabin out yet?

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
oh is "Bay" Michael Bay? Alright. I thought "Bay and Fuller" were like I don't know, some new film company.YoshiEgg25 wrote:>2012noiseredux wrote: off the top of my head, couldn't tell you what Bay and Fuller have done, or who they are.

If that's the case, I feel like it could go either way. I hated the Nightmare remake, but loved the Friday the 13th remake. So no strong feelings on this project knowing who's behind it.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
CABIN was released at selected theaters weeks, maybe a month ago around the same time THE RAID:REDEMPTION was pre-released.
Platinum Dunes is basically director Michael Bay and writers Fuller and Form. The same guys who are doing the Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles From Outerspace movie, and are aggressively pursuing the rights to other established "characters of interest". And you are right noise, time will tell, but I don't like which characters they are pursuing. And as long as Bay, Scott and Carpenter keep meeting cute, we're going to see a lot of reboots in the future.
Ya know...even guys like Maverick and Goose are on the table.
That said, with no cgi (pft, like that will happen) Bay maybe able to make a decent Top Gun reboot.

when is nation-wide? This is one of the few movies I'm looking forward to enough to see in the theater this year.Luke wrote:CABIN was released at selected theaters weeks, maybe a month ago around the same time THE RAID:REDEMPTION was pre-released.
Ah, ok. See I wasn't even familiar with the PD name. I actually had it mixed up with a direct-to-DVD company. I'll stay on the fence on this for a while. It could go either way -- as I've stated, I'm a fan of RZ's Halloweens as well, so his non-involvement could be bad, or good for me. No idea. Depends what they do with it.Platinum Dunes is basically director Michael Bay and writers Fuller and Form. As far as Turtles go, I'm also trying to stay optimistic. Part of me wants to freak out and think it's going to be terrible. But part of me wants to avoid all leaked info on it and just go the theatre excited that I'm actually seeing a new Turtles film.
