That said, if I can find about ten easy-peasy shrines to get to the cap needed for the Master Sword, I may push through and do that. Two questions:

1) is there a guide/forum somewhere that has ranked the shrines easiest-->hardest?
2) other than hitting the heart cap to get the sword (13, right?), how involved is the process of getting the sword (is it difficult, does it take a long time, etc.)?

I think I am around 60 hours or so into the game, now. Unless the finish is weak, this may be my new favorite Zelda game...and perhaps my favorite Nintendo-produced game ever.
1. Can't help with shrine locations, but in Hateno village you can find a statue which will let you swap stamina upgrades for hearts and vice versa. You can use that to hit the heart total for the master sword, then swap the upgrades back to stamina and the master sword will still work fine.

2. There is no requirement other than the heart total in terms of actually pulling the sword. Finding the sword involves a pretty simple puzzle to find your way through the area where it's being kept. I assume you know where it is, but just in case, it's in spoilers below. The whole thing can be done in about a half hour or so easily I think.

Sword location:
It's in the lost woods, in the Woodland region, directly north of Hyrule Castle.
And the puzzle solution to navigate the area:
Light a torch, follow the direction the embers blow towards, stopping to check regularly as it often changes, to make it to the centre of the forest.

After getting 13 hearts, getting the master sword is super easy.... as long as you know where it is located. It is very very helpful in the final battle, but not necessary. Plus it is a weapon that doesn't break, just had a charge that dries up in regular combat and recharges over time to use again... which it does not do in dungeons.

Hmm, I will have to do the stamina exchange trick! I forgot that feature existed. Perhaps I will do it before taking out the last of the guardians, too...

fastbilly -- Also the goron shield works perfectly and easier to not take damage. Just stand there, hold block (goron shield pops up) and when Ganon takes a shot, the spirit shield throws it back in his face and knocks Ganon over so you can just wail on him for a bit. Wish I knew about Urbosa's power, would have saved me the 10min of dodging while the shield recharged as I needed one more of those to clear it.

It is a good question, what would happen if you let Ganon keep on raging in the field? My horse got stepped on too so I had to finish him on foot as well which really wasn't all that bad of a deal anyway. I'd just fly up and hit the last remaining spots (one side, one top) and then ran under on foot and popped the last and it was a done deal.

I feel this may be my favorite Zelda game too, at least as far as 3D goes over the last 20 years. I still have a soft spot for 1 and 3, even if they clearly were limited by the time they still are excellent entries. The BotW style Zelda they could have approached 10-15 years ago had they decided not to keep it stale and long in the tooth as they have until now. Excellent case of better late than never here.

This is hands down my new favorite Zelda game. My current Top 5 is now as follows:

1. Breath of the Wild
2. Link to the Past
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Skyward Sword
5. Minish Cap
Patron Saint of Bitch Mode

It's actually hard for me to compare to other entries, because it's so different. I clearly love it, given that I've got over 50 hours into it and don't want it to end, but I'm also not sure I want the series to keep going down this path.

My top game is still Link's Awakening, with 1a) being A Link to the Past. I'm not even sure this tops my 3D list, but then again, I'm conflicted even now which of Ocarina, Skyward Sword, and Twilight is best, so that makes sense.

Was watching my wife play last night and she was fighting a lizalfos near some water. It was staying in the lake, shooting water at her which she easily dodged, but she didn't really do any damage and was waiting for him to come out. When he did, she would whack him back into the water and the process would repeat. When it was close to death, it came to shore, yelled and just chucked it's sword at her and she dodged and just killed it.

The lizalfos literally got frustrated and threw it's sword at her cause it just stopped giving a fuck.

^Hah that's funny. This game has layers and layers of personality. Take a look at an online video of a Stone Talus (Hyrule Castle West) and a mobile Guardian going at it after they interfere in picking on Link.

You know I can't quite say it's fair or not to rate this as it's like the anti-Zelda in many ways, but as much as I really love Wind Waker I'd knock that to #2 and this to the #1 spot with 3D Zelda. Mostly tempted to put it on top completely, but going back further (or on the go) the old formula worked I think better in the flatter worlds of those systems and still prefer the SNES game over all and the original old NES game trailing it. It's a bit of a co-list I guess.

Master Sword is 60 damage against guardians too.

Yeah, the Master Sword is super useful when you're taking on the bots in Hyrule Field. It lights up when you're near one (which means you got the boost to 60), and it takes them down pretty fast. You're going to want to kill a bunch of them if you want to get/upgrade the ancient armor set, anyway.
