I'd still assume that's within the margin of "expected" failure rate. I do wonder if we'll ever get a sense of what the actual rate ends up being.

I like the idea of an expansion pack, but seems like they didn't add a port for it unless they are going to use the USB ports for it.
PS4 won't be doing that exactly. I mean more the general model becoming more like what you see with PCs, mobile platforms, and so on. You don't, for example, have many iOS apps that require
exactly an iPad 2 like console games would require a PS3. Plenty of iOS apps still run on an iPad 2, though they may run better on later models, and some may require one of the newer ones.
There are pros and cons either way for that model, but the general point was that if they just stick with compatible, off-the-shelf parts from here on out, they could blur the lines between console generations.
That said, MS has already said the Xbox One will run some Windows 8 apps.

What's that, a console that fails at launch? Get right outta town!

What's that, a console that fails at launch because none of the bugs have been ironed out? Get right outta town!

All electronics can fail after manufactured. I have received DOA monitors and motherboards before.

Not trolling at all, just rolling my eyes at the fact that you felt the need to remind me that electronics can fail
Seriously though, when people start bringing up the fact that all these launch consoles are bricking, crashing, etc, I really do roll my eyes. Sony in particular has a long, long history dating all the way back to the PS1 for a high rate of launch-console failure. The PS1 had the internal plastic parts that melted, the first generation PS2s were a fire hazard, the PS3 bricked itself and had the infamous YLOD issue, and now we have the PS4 doing the same thing. Why are people shocked? Buying a console at launch is the equivalent to rolling the dice and hoping to get a good machine.

Again, you only hear of the ones who have a broken console, and are amplified due to social media and the internet. You have basically heckled those who bought a PS4 or launch consoles a few times. Yes, we get it.

I'm not heckling anyone - I'm stating my opinion on the issues that are being discussed. No, I don't agree with the majority of the people on this thread about buying a PS4 at launch, but that doesn't invalidate my opinion. I may not agree with everyone here, but I do read people's opinions and try to think from their perspective. If you don't want to read my posts, kindly skip over them.
