I think I've been unfairly jaded towards modern games. Last week Tomb Raider was on sale for $5 so I figured I'd snag it and I've had a blast with it. The platforming was extremely fun and there were only a few times where I felt like they were tossing enemies at me for the hell of it. The various collectables had some interesting dialog around them (the artifacts and journal entries) and I actually was excited to 100% them (and it didn't take too long outside normal way through the game). All in all a pretty well put together game, and now I'm really looking forward to the sequel. Makes me think I've missed out on several games I might have enjoyed (and before you say Uncharted, PS3 means dual analog shooting controls means fuck that noise).

Yup, when people tell that modern games are allways the same or are not like they used to be is because they are not looking in the right place. I try to avoid the big titles and try to find something less know games. Last night i finished the darkness witch is a great shooter where you have demon like powers and a few days ago i beat siren new translation witch was far better i could ever hope.

Well, in the same line of thinking though... it's a common control setup, and really isn't that bad. I'm guilty of dismissing console FPS for that reason (doesn't really annoy me for third person - I played Tomb Raider with a 360 pad for instance), but setting that aside and playing the Halo games anyway wound up being fun.

May still want to give 'em a shot - though being fair, outside of combat, I'd say Tomb Raider 2013 skews closer to Arkham Asylum than it does Uncharted.

I have done some Halo on a friend's Xbox; I just can't stand aiming around with dual analog controls. I feel like I'm playing with mittens on or something.

I do have the firs t two Arkham games that I picked up on Steam sale; I might play those soon.

I can relate, especially back when I pretty much just played Halo 2/3 on a LAN with friends. Still not my preferred FPS control scheme. Most games are tuned for it though, and once you take away multiplayer angles, accepting aim-assist and all isn't a big deal. I wound up glad that I didn't let it keep me away from some games is all.

I will say that, after a month of using almost exclusively an Xbox my controller aiming abilities have improved.

Of course, then I went over to a friends to play some CS and mouse controls feel infinitely more natural.

Still, it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

How about Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, play that yet?

Perhaps you are also unfairly jaded towards 3D Castlevanias as well? :P
