What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpful)

Yeah, I know Casiopea. City Pop pretty heavily influenced the sound of the 1970s and early '90s in a lot of media. Why do you think American TV has so much saxophone in that era? Glad you got to discover them. If you enjoy Japanese music from that era, also check out Yellow Magic Orchestra. They're more electronic, but you're gonna hear Atari tracks throughout their stuff.

Currently listening to the REPO! The Genetic Opera soundtrack. On "Night Surgeon" at the moment.

I wonder how many folks here can relate to Jeremy Heere.

Be More Chill isn't the only cast recording I've been binging lately.
EDIT: I didn't realize the song, "Totally Fucked" from Spring Awakening, was age restricted. As such, I took out the embedded video.
More or less, I've only been binging cast recordings of shows I'd love to direct if/when I start a local theater group on Hatteras Island. I'm personally partial to the name Hatteras Island Theatrical Society, and to a lesser extent Hatteras Island Players. And yes, the acronyms are a big reason why I went with these names.

Speaking of musicals I'd love to share with the folks of Hatteras Island, here's a number from another musical whose cast recording I've had in rotation.
I'd imagine finding someone to play Lola would be it's own Herculean task, and then I'd have to find half a dozen drag queens AND they'd have to sing. And that's probably the EASIEST part of mounting a local production of Kinky Boots.

YMO was a massive influence for most of the notable Japanese video game composers who started out in the 80s and early 90s, and they are mostly pretty up-front about it.

Just gave Rhydeen a quick listen and I can see why it's so influential on video game composers of the day. I could totally imagine a Sega CD or Turbografx CD game with music like that.

Re: What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpful)
If there is a genre of music that I cannot get enough of, it is 1980s/1990s Alternative. R.E.M. is probably my most influential bands and one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time. Any band that fell after them or took influence from them is something that piques my interest. So, a couple of months ago, this random rift and chorus popped into my head, I suddenly remembered a song that I hadn't heard from when I was a teenager. I recently picked up the album and it sounds exactly like an alternative band from 1992.
And I absolutely loved it and ate it up. I just wanted to showcase this to anybody else that might remember this piece of music that only existed for a short amount of time and that you may have forgotten as well.
I also love forgotten media!

I love finding out about acts from genres I fancy that either flew under the radar or have sadly been lost to time.
One of two major acts for me are Sue Saad, who had a band called Sue Saad and the Next but also contributed to the soundtracks to Looker, Radioactive Dreams and Vicious Lips. The latter two are Albert Pyun films and she even appeared in Radioactive Dreams singing Guilty Pleasures (seen in the video below, taken from a dubbed version of the film).
Another major act in the same regard is Meri D. Marshall, who had a role in the film LA Valet. I first heard of her from a blog about cult films called The House of Self-Indulgence. There was an embedded Youtube upload of the video for "My Obsession".
If you love obscure, '80s AF synth-heavy bops, neither Sue Saad nor Meri D. Marshall will let you down.
