As for "JRPG", it can certainly fit under that moniker, I'm just saying it's much more action-based, whereas most folks think of a "pure" JRPG as leaning more towards Dragon Quest.

"JRPG" can refer to any RPG that originated in Japan, or a game done in the Dragon Quest style. People use the term differently depending on context.

Bone just sounds stubborn and clinging on to nostalgia. I have loads for the 90s as well but dismissing modern RPGs as bad is flat stupid.

Well a MMORPG usually have big open worlds to explore. FFXV doesn't have that. It' has a big region based over world in third person. Region worlds are unlocked through story progress. It acts the same as the over worlds in old FF games pretty much. It serves as a big space but nothing to really explore or do. Just important points on the map to go to. Xenoblade X is very much open world to explore and encourages it. FFXV combat honestly is bad but it's not MMORPG like. XCX also has the MMORPG turn based combat. Yes the collection/hunt stuff is but the rest of the game isn't.

Also the notion a JRPG isn't one because turn base is silly.

I didn't say the combat was MMORPG-ish. I also didn't say that it can't be a JRPG, but often additional clarification is needed because perceptions tend towards turn-based without the "action" qualifier, mostly from the outsized effect DQ had.
