What are you playing?
Re: What are you playing?
Yeah, I can imagine it's more tedious in the Drakengard games.
I had about 67% weapons or something in Nier. But yeah, I guess I just ultimately wasn't in the mood for something super depressing and I'm still kind of coming off the Automata high and can't get that game out of my head. I think you can buy all but two or three weapons in Nier that require quests and they might have been pretty easy. But I was ready for something different.
So I put in an hour or two into Drakengard 3 and I'm digging it a fair bit. It's a technical mess like I've heard though haha, but oh well. I have a high tolerance for that. The music is pretty awesome and Okabe injects some of the techno-Tekken stuff in it. It's basically a very linear Dynasty Warriors... but I actually like that a lot about it, so much that I think if the DW games themselves were point A to point B linear levels I'd maybe be a fan actually.
The tone is weirdly all over the place though. It's extremely violent, gets serious, and then there's piss and dick jokes. I watched a movie version of the first game on youtube and it seemed 200% intensely dark and serious, so it's pretty weird this seems different. I could almost imagine there's fans out there of Drakengard 1 that might not like this, or vice versa. But I've also seen Drakengard fans that apparently don't like Nier.
As always though, pretty sure Drakengard 3 has the onslaught of endings and necessary replays. I'm not sure if I'll bother with this one unless it really pulls me in. But for a quick one run it seems solid so far.

Re: What are you playing?
I would fall into the group of Nier fans who HATE Drakengard, so I can certainly imagine there exists the other way around. They're very different games. Nier is kinda Zelda meets Dynasty Warriors (and even then that comparison is a bit ham-fisted), where Drakengard is literally Ace Combat meets Dynasty Warriors.Xeogred wrote:. Yeah, that's why I just watched a chopped up "movie" version of Drakengard (which was really well done actually). Because the gameplay itself looked... yikes. lmao, but the story was really cool.
Here's the video if interested:
Anyways, I might be tapping out on Legend of Grimrock. These spiders are pissing me off.

That would be a fine argument if the gameplay were actually fun or compelling. However, it is neither. I can't imagine forcing myself to play Drakengard 1 even one time through, let alone 7Fragems wrote:IN Drakenguard some are hidden in the levels but about 50% are in the store. Think there are a few in the store that are uber expensive as well so you end up having to grind levels or play through the semi boring arena challenges. You'll go through like 7 play through before hitting the one that requires all weapons though so if you don't rush you will find most of them. At least some of the playthroughs are like 1/2 to 1/3 the length of the first play through though.PartridgeSenpai wrote:Compared to any Drakengard game, getting all of the weapons in Nier was something I did completely naturally, so I guess I never got that ending message Xp
You more or less just buy all of them, right? Or do you need to craft some as well?
Compared to Drakengard (and I'm fairly sure the 3rd one commits an identical sin to its predecessors), it's far far easier in Nier. I don't know what that studio's obsession is with busy work and forcing you to collect meaningless weapons to view more of the story, but it's in near every damn game they've ever done.
If you have actually gotten the final ending on Drakengard, then you have far more dedication to this medium than I do, good sir.

Having a blast with some shmups and building up my collection on Steam these past few days. Anyone have any recommendations? I just grabbed Judgement Silversword thanks to Bone.
Muishihimesama
Crimzon Glover
Blue Revolver
Deathsmiles
Ikaruga
Are the other ones I own. I love Ikaruga but I know it's different. I wonder if I can beat it again haha, I have before but it's such a puzzle going back to it. I'm loving Mushi the most probably right now, the music is incredible. I'm shocked it's one of the older ones out of this group, maybe the shmup budgets were bigger back in the early 2000's. It just seems super top notch.
On my wishlist, I have:
Dariusburst Chronicles
DonDonPachi Resurrection
Eschantos
Mecha Ritz Steel Rondo
I wish Radiant Silvergun was on there, since I've never liked it but everyone seems to love it... I want to give it another shot. I also wish Sega would do something with all those Technosoft games, give us some cool collection.

^ Nice on those Shmups.
Playing Abzu.
After RiME I just wanted something emotional or artsy.
So far it reminds me if you combined Ecco the Dolphin on Dreamcast with Endless Ocean on Wii.

Brothers a tale of Two Sons-PS4
I finished this on Steam years ago so been long enough I hopefully forgot most of it. Got it real cheap off ebay new. This will tide me over until Journey CE PS4 comes in on Monday.

Re: What are you playing?
I have been spending a lot more time than I would like to admit playing FreeSO, which is a fan server for the long defunct Sims Online MMO. I have been playing with forum member and recently ascendant avatar, Keyglyph. Essentially, the game is running on a modified version of the Sims 1, but with a dedicated sim you control that explores a huge city landscape with player run shops, jobs, clubs and the sort. Imagine an odd mixture of the Sims and Second Life.
The main draw is that jobs and mini-games all rely on communicating with other players and being a team. Simple tasks, like making pizza, deciphering codes, or jamming as a band can be done at a variety of locations, while larger scale official jobs will whisk you to inaccessible zones, where teams of players work together in a locations like restaurants, robot factories and nightclubs to cater to NPC needs and overcome obstacles and puzzles.
You do these things in hopes of one day owning a piece of land, creating a lot that would be a draw for other players and most importantly, having fun.
Key and I have been getting in wacky character, with Key being a Robot constructed from old console parts and I being an aquatic alien life form that is intent on studying humans. We have both saved up to purchase a lot and have been working on building a bar/nightclub for open mic night and a locale for our band to jam out and entertain the masses.
What we have found is typical of most video games in general. Most players have streamlined the game experience to an art, with lots being arranged almost identically with similar furniture and household appliances. We, however are working on aesthetic first and foremost and building with theme in mind. We are injecting our own personal antics to bring people out of their comfort zone and experience the game with fresh eyes. It has been an absolute blast.
If any are interested in playing, you will always have a roof at our lot. Just let me know and I can add you as a roommate. The game is free it is such an odd creature that differs from any MMO out there. It is a blast, warts and all.
