I'm hoping the Switch version gets a "complete/gold" release someday with all the new stuff down the road by the time I'm ready to replay it.
Hero Mode should be there from the start. I like that it was in Twilight Princess HD.
Anyways, I beat Nier Automata. And I cried. Got the platinum and went the whole mile for everything. I seriously think this is my GOTY and can't even put it into words. Yoko Taro succeeds in delivering a story that can only be told as a game. Going to have to sit on this one for a few days before the review.
I started Wild Arms 3 on the Sony Playstation 2 this afternoon!
I absolutely loved Wild Arms 1 and 2 on the original Playstation. They were one of my favorites and were some of the early games I got for the system. It took me a long while, but I finally got the first one on the PS2, Wild Arms 3 and I'm finally getting around to playing it.
I really loved the art style and the scenario of the game. I love the stylized look of the Old West and the cell shaded graphics still look quite nice. The battle system seems fast, but very engaging.
There is a weird mechanic of the ability to skip random battles. That seems interesting, but I don't know if I'd ever use it. Also, there are no traditional save spots as you items from your inventory to save.
I can deal with those eccentricities however. So far though, it has been very enjoyable. It's a fairly long game, clocking in at over 40 hours, but I'm ready for another JRPG.

These are some great and often overlooked jrpgs. You can't always skip the random battles, it's a limited use type of thing. The exception is if you are vastly higher level than whatever is challenging you then you can skip for no penalty. I like this feature, it makes exploring older areas a breeze.
Started my run of Pokemon Black 2 today, and gosh I've forgotten a lot about 5th gen. I'm not sure if it's just the sequel that does it, but GOD does this game run badly. You can practically see the smoke coming out of the DS when you go up or down stairs or a hill as the whole world has to slow down to rerender.
This game is HELLA fast though. I can see why people say Sun and Moon start a little slow, because you get your Pokemon and Pokeballs in like 5 freakin' minutes in this game! They don't pussyfoot around it even a little!

I'll probably jump back into Nier 1 tomorrow and finish up the additional endings. Although (maybe PartridgeSenpai can confirm), I think I hear you need all weapons for ending 3 or 4, or something? I hope that's not too tedious. I went for the platinum with Automata but I'm not worried about that with Nier 1, especially since I'm jumping back into Memory 2 from my last save in 2013.
So yesterday and today I've been having fun binging some Steam stuff I haven't touched. A lot of shmups like Deathsmiles, Mushihimesama, Crimzon Glover, and Ikaruga (already beat this back in the day!)
Also been checking out Legend of Grimrock and it's kind of a fun, perfect podcast kind of game. My friends on my list haven't put much time into overall so I don't know if it was that popular, but it's pretty neat.

Naw, m8, you're thinking of Nier's far inferior little cousin, Drakengard! Just keep playing through the story to conclusion (sadly endings 3 and 4 don't add nearly as much to it as the second playthrough does) and you'll get your endings in a fairly idiot-proof fashion. One thing you CAN do during those playthroughs, though, is that you're likely so powerful that you can kill the bosses really quickly. You can try for the trophies for killing them under a certain amount of time. Just be sure to SKIP THE MID-FIGHT CUTSCENES! Those count towards your fight time-clock, and those achievements are impossible to get without skipping them. I hope you enjoy it

I love Legend of Grimrock! I played it a CRAPTON back a couple years ago. Going through the first few floors over and over trying to find all the secrets they hid. Did you find the secret equipment in the starting room?
There's lots of hidden stuff tucked away in puzzles you already gotta solve, empty torch-holders you gotta put stuff in, and hidden buttons in walls. It's very Land of Lore-ish in feel, and I absolutely adored it. I think I actually own the sequel. I should really play through it sometime

I'm actually 100% sure you need all weapons... having just gotten ending B today, there's a message afterwards that said "Now acquire all weapons to make a new final choice at the end" basically. Like you said though it doesn't seem like these two routes offer much else outside of the endings and I could get two gold trophies, but I think I'll just watch the rest on youtube. It was rough but still fun to go back to it today and knock out ending B. Totally forget how integral Emil, Devola, and Popola were here, since they're all in Automata in some fashion.
I did get some of the time limit boss trophes on playthrough B!
I'm thinking that Nier 1 is just simply more fucked up, with the whole human/shade thing. Not to give away much for anyone that still might check it out, but it's so easy to see how people joke this will rip your heart and soul out and make you depressed. The emphasis on death, loss, and revenge is extreme. On the other hand Nier Automata still has very much the same kind of themes and I also don't want to give away anything here, but I would say it seems a bit more upbeat and positive, while focusing more on personal existentialism with literally like every single character in the game. So the focus kind of feels higher on existentialism compared to Nier's focus on death and tragedy. It's very neat to play them back to back and put together a few more pieces that connect them. There's a lot of connections but at the same time they are both very stand alone self contained stories.
I also like how composer Keiichi Okabe retuned the music a bit for Automata. I'm not sure if he went for something that invokes sci-fi a little more since the game is a lot heavier on that, but it seems like he threw in a lot more intense drums & bass. Almost in a Marty O Donnell kind of way. I absolutely love Nier's music, but it too can be very draining with how emotional and sad the music itself can be. Automata has that too, but is a bit more melodic, intense, heavier, and fun. Automata's OST is the king.
tl;dr, I think Automata is going to blow your mind when you get to it Patridge.
I've got Drakengard 3 I'm going to check out soon. I'm skipping 2 since Yoko Taro had nothing to do with that one.
I'm on floor 3 or 4 in Grimrock now, one with a bunch of traps. I'm kind of wishing I created my own party, because the Warrior, monster Warrior guy (?), Rogue, and Mage combo seems kind of bad. I think I could probably do a lot more damage with two mages in the back row. I think I found one little secret in the beginning but it was only one item or something... I think. I'm doing fairly well but groups of 4 shield/spear soldiers are a big threat, along with those damn spiders!
Compared to any Drakengard game, getting all of the weapons in Nier was something I did completely naturally, so I guess I never got that ending message Xp
You more or less just buy all of them, right? Or do you need to craft some as well?
Compared to Drakengard (and I'm fairly sure the 3rd one commits an identical sin to its predecessors), it's far far easier in Nier. I don't know what that studio's obsession is with busy work and forcing you to collect meaningless weapons to view more of the story, but it's in near every damn game they've ever done.

IN Drakenguard some are hidden in the levels but about 50% are in the store. Think there are a few in the store that are uber expensive as well so you end up having to grind levels or play through the semi boring arena challenges. You'll go through like 7 play through before hitting the one that requires all weapons though so if you don't rush you will find most of them. At least some of the playthroughs are like 1/2 to 1/3 the length of the first play through though.
