Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Nah Duck Hunt is fun, you just have to hit a point where it's challenging. That means 2 ducks, or better yet ducks with 2P controlling them. There's also the kind of tricky clay pigeon shooting too which gets hard if you try for a higher score as the hit box gets really tiny. WCT/AW/SE was just a lame pack-in to show a use for the pad which never really got taken seriously.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Somewhere around 2008 I decided I was really a game player, not so much a game collector. At that time I had tons of games, too many, really. I sold off so much stuff, for me it was liberating. I only kept games I couldn't easily emulate. So 5th gen and lower was out. Since then I've sold off quite a lot of my 6th gen games too, only keeping the 6th gen titles I haven't beat yet. I will sell them after I beat them too. I am sure eventually I'll be selling off my 7th gen games after they're beaten. (Already been doing it with my Wii stuff. At one point I had about 250 Wii games, but that's down to about 60 or so now.) I hardly ever replay a game after I beat it, but I do care to own it until then. The reason is so that I can play it whenever I decide to. After a game's beat though, it's getting sold, 9 times outta 10. I just don't feel the impetus to hoard video games for the sake of hoarding video games.

In many ways I still consider my collection to be in its infancy. My current goal is to collect a "Top 25-50" games on each of my consoles. I'm sure it will be less than 25 for the libraries I am less interested in, and it may end up above 50 for some of my most beloved machines, but that's the general target. Right now I'm over on some and under on others, but in the end I think this will produce a collection that is by no means large, but will be very personal and of high, curated quality.
I have very few qualms with emulation as it advances every year, so for games outside of this "Top 200" or so, that will be fine. I will only get physical copies of games that are very important to me and among my own personal favorites (and that I can find for a reasonable deal). It's just too expensive for me to go for real (full-set, obscure treasures, all CIB, mint, etc) collecting.

I'm a straight up hoarder. Maybe that'll change at some point.

This is the same thing I am doing, with the end goal of an all-killer, curated to my taste library. I've actually really enjoyed the process of testing and vetting games to fit within a top X limit.chuckster wrote: My current goal is to collect a "Top 25-50" games on each of my consoles.
I've also narrowed it down to only the consoles I have a real fondness of. There are games on most consoles that I adore, but very few pieces of hardware that really get me excited.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I've done the top list for years now after an original mass sell off over a decade ago. The two oldest consoles I kept a much larger collection, but when it came to N64 forward I'd usually just keep like 20 to 25 games, sometimes lower to 10-15 depending on the format (which is where 3DS sits now for me.) N64 and the Cube had been 20s but they're closer to 30 now. PSX I have but don't actually collect for so it's under 10 to give some examples.
When it comes to the NES, SNES and anything GB/C/A branded then it's more into the 30-60 range and much on those with the older are favorites I've kept since way back mostly first owner stuff I just don't care to part with. Hoarding just seems dumb and wasteful both in money and space at this point.

Ha, I can't even think of 10 games I would really like to own for each console, much less 25.
Because something I've realized is that there's a big difference between having a cool game and actually caring about it. It might be cool having 4 Mega Man games and not play any of them to completition but I don't actually care in a significant way, my life is not improved by it.

Top 25 is SUPER hard to do affordably on the Saturn. Like, just painfully hard.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I understand we all have different value systems when it comes to gaming. Speaking personally then, I can only see keeping games which I would definitely replay. And those tend to be quick arcade-y stuff like racers, fighters, shmups and such. When it comes to action adventure, pure adventure, and RPGs... it takes a lot for me to want to replay one of those. The reason is; I tend to remember everything that happens and it takes the mystery and surprise out. Replaying say a forty hour JRPG for me is gonna be forty hours of deja vu. I would rather seek and play games I've not yet experienced, rather than go back and re-experience games I've already beaten. It's like; been there, done that, we're done here. I have known other gamers who will willingly beat long games over and over again, seeming to enjoy them just as much every time. That doesn't work for me.
I do like the idea of TOP 25 though. Typically when I bought a system in the past, I would go nuts and buy any and every game that looked remotely interesting for it. Then I would end up with 100-250 games for that system, most of which ultimately turn out not great. I have regretted this more than once in the past. Going forward in the future, I will do a TOP 25 or less. I don't have time for so many games, and I have more important things to spend money on these days.

I feel your pain. The Saturn is a system I've admired forever but due to prices on just about every game recently, I haven't been able to actually buy any. I'd love a Rhea to be able to play more Saturn games on real hardware.
I could probably do a top 50 on Xbox for the same price as a Saturn top 10.
