I do.AppleQueso wrote:Does anyone casually saying "psx" actually mean the DVR? PSX, no matter who first came up with it, is a damn terrible abbreviation aand no longer ought to be used when there's a better, clearer alternative.

A knock on the spin offs.AppleQueso wrote:Is this sarcasm, a knock at how many non-platformer spinoffs there are now, or just an assertion that 3D platformers (at least in the formula that Mario 64 popularized) aren't true platformers?Violent By Design wrote:What game was this? So even if Mario Sunshine was not a platformer (it is, 100%), I still wouldn't necessarily be impressed. I'd be more impressed if it didn't have to rely on brand name.
I really don't get how it is risky to take a character people already love, and put them in a new IP. That is not risk to me. Risk is making a new game, and making new characters and hoping the game sells on its gameplay.

I'm just teasing ya bud. PSX was what it was known as before the PlayStation was released and it stuck for some people, myself included. It would be like people using Dolphin to refer to the Gamecube, which they kinda do with the emulator.Menegrothx wrote:I blame media and native speakers. I've heard the word being used in plural on so many occasions that it's become an ingraned part of my vocabulary. I did try to check once which one is correct, and I was informed that "anyways" is "OK in USA and Canada". Not sure if that's true or not, but anyways sounds more natural to me. Again, I blame the media influence.Stark wrote: People saying "anyways" instead of "anyway", is more annoying than "PSX" instead of "PlayStation"
Why would anyone use "PlayStation" when you can use "PS1"? PS1->PS2->PS3, logical and efficient. PlayStation=11 letters. PS1=3 letters, just as many as in "PSX".
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

100% agreed.Menegrothx wrote:Anyways I agree that people shouldn't use the term "PSX" (nor oXbox).
How many times do you say this to people and they get genuinely confused?AppleQueso wrote:At least if I say "I was playing my oXbox earlier" nobody will ask "Do you mean the 360?"Menegrothx wrote: Anyways I agree that people shouldn't use the term "PSX" (nor oXbox).

You'd be surprised. Is it really any different than saying "PS1?"o.pwuaioc wrote:100% agreed.Menegrothx wrote:Anyways I agree that people shouldn't use the term "PSX" (nor oXbox).

I'm surprised you're talking to people about retro gaming who aren't retro gamers. Do they get confused when you say you're playing your Saturn? Do they think of the car??AppleQueso wrote:You'd be surprised. Is it really any different than saying "PS1?"o.pwuaioc wrote:How many times do you say this to people and they get genuinely confused?
Also, oXbox is anathema to me because of confusion with this:

As well as "Xbox and 360" just naturally differentiate themselves. Likewise, there's the "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo" and "Nintendo 64", or "Game Boy" and "Game Boy Color" and "Game Boy Advance", but no one says "original Game Boy", and I rarely here "original Nintendo" these days, though that's an odd case because the NES doesn't have a proper name differentiated from its company.

There's a console called PlayStation 2 that's commonly refered to as "PS2". There's a console called PlayStation 3 that's commonly refered to as "PS3". If some one has a hard time figuring out what "PS1" might possibly mean, I don't know what to say.AppleQueso wrote: You'd be surprised. Is it really any different than saying "PS1?"

Geez people. You've really never met anyone who's taken "Xbox" to mean "Xbox 360"?

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I have, I just don't talk to them regularly about playing an Xbox.AppleQueso wrote:Geez people. You've really never met anyone who's taken "Xbox" to mean "Xbox 360"?

Seems like most people don't know about the original Xbox.
