What was the last movie you've seen?

^wait... I always thought that American Beauty was supposed to be kinda comedic? I always took it as a movie that didn't really take it self all that seriously... It's been a long time since I've seen it but I remember liking it. I always thought it was like... an artsy black comedy or something.

Anyhow, watched Die Hard 2 and Die Hard With A Vengeance. I loved the first movie a lot, and put off watching the sequels for a long time because I figured they couldn't be anything other than disappointing.

Die Hard 2 I thought was just really... bland. Like the whole thing felt like a typical Die-Hard inspired action movie. It just left me bored through most of it and hardly any of it was memorable at all. On the other hand Die Hard With A Vengeance I actually thought was a lot of fun. Maybe it was because of Samuel L Jackson or something, but I really enjoyed it. Not as good as the first of course, but I'd at least watch it again.

Both movies felt like unrelated films that had been retooled a bit to fit into the Die Hard universe, which I know isn't actually too far from the truth, but still.

Look at the directors of the Die Hard trilogy and there lies your answer.

I always thought of American Beauty as something similar to Office Space except without the Gangster Rap.

I remember watching it as soon as it was released, and really enjoying it. Last night, I couldn't stop laughing at how silly the entire movie is. I hope that was the movie's original intention. Even the parts that I think are intended to be serious are pretty laughable.

At points the story was so dumb I almost just turned it off. But as a movie, it works. It deserves all of its acclaims and awards, it's just that I can't take the movie seriously for a second.

Great movie, just not for me.
My wife loves that movie. I just don't get it. The creepy old guy vibe that Kevin Spacey puts off in the movie has a lot to do with it, I think. It just doesn't make sense to me, and my wife thinks he's sexy.

I recently saw Ghost Rider 2, and although I'll admit it's a terrible movie, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

American Beauty is certainly not a chick flick (its a black comedy, as suggested), and Kevin Spacey is completely badass in that movie - he exudes confidence and charisma, which I can find sexy in anyone.

Rhyme and Punishment

KRS-One can't narrate but interesting cases with the rappers filmed with the Big Lurch case being the most interesting one.

OH. NOW I GET IT.

Yes, yes I think everyone should enjoy chick flicks at some level. How can you claim to have any appreciation for film and not enjoy the occasional Matthew McConaughey/Renée Zellweger or Patrick Dempsey/Julia Roberts mashup? They're arguably more important to the medium than comic book films, more nuanced and better acted than horror films, and more grounded than sci-fi. Give me the laugh out loud Bridget Jones' Diary or the touching Emma over shit films like The Green Lantern or Daredevil any day.
