Related to the Nintendo discussion in the last few pages:

Despite trying over and over again, I have never been able to get into 3D Mario games. I don't know why - it's just a 2D franchise to me. Maybe it's a 2D genre to me, actually, because I can't think of a 3D platformer that I've ever really liked.

I doubt I'll even buy Mario Odyssey.

You know, it's been a good ten years or so since I really put a lot of time into TP. I should probably consider burning through the Wii U version here in the near future.

TP was one of my absolute favorites. But then, so was Skyward. I'm weird like that; there seems to be a sort of split where if you liked one, you didn't like the other. I thought they were both great, and accentuated certain strengths of the series in each. TP is basically Nintendo doing what was popular with 32-bit RPGs: a game you love, but bigger. Skyward doubled down on an interesting combat system and making pretty much the entire game a dungeon. And I love the dungeons in Zelda; they're my favorite aspect of the series, so by extension I love Skyward. It's also why I didn't like Wind Waker or Majora's Mask that much; neither had enough dungeons, and Majora's Mask was far too sidequest-oriented for my tastes.

Despite what I said in the random thoughts thread...

I'm really getting to the point where I don't think Hitman is a good stealth series.

Pretty sure we're on the same level with the 3D games, Sarge.

It's not like I needed to confirm my suspicions against Wind Waker personally, but playing both the HD version of that and then Twilight Princess about a year apart really shed the light even further. Phew, even if Twilight Princess is a good 15 some hours longer, Wind Waker felt way longer for all the wrong reasons.

It was funny how quickly I did the forest puzzle with the stone statues for the Master Sword too. That thing took me forever when I first played it ages ago, but it's one of those trial and error puzzles so I probably just got in a bad loop with it haha. I was still blown away by some of the later dungeons, absolutely amazing stuff and Midna is great.

I keep second guessing myself about checking out the 3DS version of Majora's Mask now. I have fond memories of the game, but it's probably best left in the past. I loved the dungeons though and I still want to say Stone Temple is maybe the hardest in all of the 3D games, but that could be some faulty memories. But yeah, there's only four dungeons and everything else in between... eh. I even like the story, the mask gimmick, and the time limit was whatever, but I just recall there being so many fetch quests and triggered events.

I still can't wait to hit up Ocarina of Time 3DS though. It's still my favorite of the 3D games.

The Imprisoned in Skyward Sword definitely sucked, but the game was so huge it's easy to dismiss it for me personally. I loved how the overworld was basically a dungeon and complex, pretty much just like Oracle of Ages. My only wish for Skyward Sword is that it needed a snowy area. Felt pretty weird it just flat out didn't have one, but I got that fix in Breath of the Wild... the NE area in that one was one of my favorite experiences in the entire game, along with those super huge mountains in the East, north of Gerudo. I felt cold when I played it during the summer haha.

I don't really care too much either way about Twilight Princess; It's pretty good. I had the worst time with Skyward Sword, though. I beat it, but mostly out of spite, while cursing the game every step of the way. The main thing was the controls: They just didn't work. I couldn't get accurate sword swings, and often when I actually tried to swing in a particular direction, Link would swing about (plus or minus) 60 to 150 degrees out of phase with me. I just had to waggle, because it was the only way I could successfully do anything, even when re-calibrating the Wii Motion Plus every 20 minutes or so. The other real beef I have with SS is Phi--which sucks, because it's so great for representing phase shift in oscillating systems. It was way worse than Navi. There is no reason that anything should interrupt the game with so much useless text, all the time. What's worse, is it would always pop up when my wiimote battery was running low (it's rechargeable, so this was often), every time I changed rooms! There's a damn icon on the screen telling me this, I don't need a halt in my progress for a reminder! Phi!

Also, Loftwings.

Everything else was just not very appealing to me. I really don't remember much of anything about the dungeons, either. Although, I guess I could actually say that about a lot of the 3D Zeldas (and LttP, now that I really think about it).

@Exhuminator: Didn't want to hijack the scariest horror game thread...

But if you thought Silent Hill 1 was not fun, you are in for a whole new world and dimension of torture with Siren. Good luck! :P

Truthfully, I have not even played it. But watched through a lot of two different playthroughs on youtube (rare to find someone playing that game). I was very, very, very thankful I never bought or ordered the game.

Siren: Blood Curse still looks like maybe it's okay though, but I have no idea.

I have a theory about that. After Silent Hill 1, some of the key Team Silent staff members left and joined SCE to produce Siren. Meanwhile the remaining Team Silent members forged on to create Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill 2 went on to be considered a masterpiece, whereas Siren had a very mixed reaction. I have to wonder if the problems I have with Silent Hill followed the folks who left and created Siren, meanwhile the good eggs left at Konami (i.e. Masashi Tsuboyama) created Silent Hill 2 without Keiichiro Toyama's sadistic influence. I think this explains things well enough.

You could be onto something there.

Also, the Siren budget was dooky compared to what Konami could do on the PS2, so that didn't help either.

But yeah it looks straight up unplayable bad to me.

I always thought that the Siren was created by remains of team silent after they got the booted because of Silent Hill 4 but that's clearly not possible because of the timeline. It's kinda bullshit that people keep saying that it's people behind silent hill because like Ex said the series really is remembered because of the PS2 entries. Not that i think SH1 is bad or anything (i did quite like) but it's not a masterpiece like two is. You can't really have two without the first but the first game doesn't have the same level of depth and it's more generic with it's monster design (there's reason for the butterfly monster but it's a butterfly)

I have all the Siren games. I keep meaning to play through those some time... The only one I've played a substantial amount of is Blood Curse, although I never completed it.
