I cannot think of a single person on this forum that comment fits.
The closest to this would be Bone, but he's got so much to play anyway, I don't really think this is a huge knock to him. And he does venture into the 90s, just not as often.
Bone even said he is gonna buy a Switch.... eventually! So when the switch turns 30, Bone will finally get to experience it's splendor.

I was thinking Bone might be the closest. But Bone has a PS3/360, Wii U and a Vita.

And if we did have a user who only played 80s games, they should be welcomed on a "retro gaming forum".

If either of you are talking about the Switch, I have three things to say. Firstly I don't see where Pierrot nor myself were "hating" on the Switch. We only said its current two most popular games aren't appealing to us. Secondly the Switch is in no way whatsoever an "unpopular console", it's very popular right now. Lastly, this is the unpopular opinions thread. Taking offense to someone's unpopular opinion in this particular thread is what's exhausting.
Can't speak for maru, but I definitely wasn't directing that at you; I didn't even bother reading more than a few comments above that. I just saw him express and sentiment I agreed with vehemently absent of any larger context. Sorry if that ignorance of context led to an inadvertent slight.

I definitely want to play Breath of the Wild someday. It's the first 3D Zelda game to ever appeal to me.

Super Mario Odyssey looks like a blast for fans of the genre but it's not my thing. I'll probably watch some Let's Plays to see all the neat stuff.

I'm not bashing the Switch in any sense when I say there's not enough there for me to justify wanting to get one.

Having a scale out of 10 and then never granting a 10 out of 10 is as useless as having a scale out of 10 where 7 is average. Both end up with numbers going to waste.

I feel the same, but there will likely be a PS4 game arriving to me in a year or so.
marurun wrote:As for the 10/10 review score thing, some publications call their 10 a "perfect" score, but I don't think anyone would argue that there is truly a perfect game devoid of any flaws. But the thing is, if great games get a 9 or a 9.5, what do you give those games that actually go a step better? Those rare titles that really exceed all expectations? I think there's room for a 10 score. It's simply a rare accolade for the truly deserving game. You always have to have a top score, and that score needs to be rarely granted to emphasize it's worth. And with their Switch titles it sounds like Nintendo is trying very hard to push into that space.
I can acknowledge the usefulness of top marks, but tens across the board makes me feel like I'm unable to voice any sort of dissenting opinion, due to its "perfect" status. I think that's already been evidenced, to a certain degree, by the responses in this thread.

If people are happy playing Mario Odyssey, then more power to them, but I'm a little fatigued by new Mario releases so often being treated as if they're reinventing video games. I see that Peach is being kidnapped, and forced into marriage again. That sure gives me motivation to play the game. (It doesn't. I'd rather she just figure it out on her own, and be done with it.)

I can understand if the gameplay doesn't appeal. Not everyone likes 3D platformers. As for story, count me in the "do not care" category. If it were an RPG, I'd be concerned, but for this genre, all I really need is a flimsy excuse to go exploring variously-themed worlds. Kind of like how I suspect fans of first-person shooters, in many cases, really don't care much about the story and really just care about the moment-to-moment gameplay. I mean, Wolfenstein 2 just came out, and I have pretty much no interest in the game despite the critical acclaim. I do get why folks would be excited, though.

The reason it's probably getting so many 10/10s is that most reviewing outlets give the job to someone that has familiarity with the source material. They're going to typically like the genre already. But don't worry about dissenting; eventually it'll be hip to hate it, kind of like how popular sentiment rapidly turned against various Zelda games.

It wasn't directed at you or Pierrot. You are allowed to not favor a console. It was directed at the whole, "How can you NOT like this thing that everyone loves?", or rather, at the tone of that sentiment as some were expressing it.
