I always look in this thread hoping it's about Ninja Turtles... but nope.

So, I've been trying to explore more animation from places besides America and Japan. I've found some interesting stuff so far and I'll try to post about it here if anyone finds it interesting or informative.

The Mystery of the Third Planet (1981)
(Тайна третьей планеты)

Run Time: 47 minutes

Wikipedia Synopsis:
On June 2, 2181, Alice, her father Professor Seleznyov and Captain Green go on a space expedition to find rare animals for Moscow Zoo. On the way, they visit many planets, meet many interesting denizens of the cosmos (such as a flying cow and a chatterbird) and accidentally uncover and become caught up in a space pirate conspiracy.

A visually great film. In particular the animation is quite good, and some of the art is just gorgeous to look at. Everything in this movie is so vibrant and unique. Some scenes really stand out for their exhibitions of imaginative architecture, alien life, and otherworldly environments.

Besides that, the synthesized soundtrack is totally awesome and really sets a great futuristic atmosphere.

On the downside, the plot is pretty light and not particularly engaging to the point that it's hard to say much about it. This movie more or less holds all of its worth in its visuals. In spite of this, the movie is pretty short (again, 47 minutes) so you don't have much to lose if you're curious about it.

This film was adapted for american audiences. This adaption isn't very good though, the translation is poor, it cuts scenes, and it replaces the awesome synthesized soundtrack. It does have a pretty interesting American cast at least. I would definitely recommend watching this one subtitled.

The full version is available on youtube, although the one with built in subs is low quality. My solution was ripping the highest quality one and getting subtitles for it off the internet.

Yet another action-packed and emotional story in Green Lantern this week. It's a damn shame both of those shows are in their final season as we've recently learned, Green Lantern especially.
Even though she went all evil, part of me feels for Aya. Razer really was messing with her head.
Did anyone else notice that the killer robot villain in this week's Young Justice, the one that looked like some variant of the Iron Man armor, his voice was the same one used for Apocalypse in the classic X-Men animated series.

I think they've upped the ante in these past two episodes. As someone pointed out to me, it was some heavy stuff for a kid's cartoon. However, I've heard people say that a big part of the viewing audience for Green Lantern and Young Justice seems to consist of viewers older than the actual demographic they're shooting for. We've seen this in the past with Justice League Unlimited where story lines started to get so much more mature in subject matter it was starting to not really feel like a kid's show anymore. Plus, I remember that show getting a prime time slot.

That was a hard episode of Green Lantern for me to watch.
I know it sounds sappy, but I can honestly say that seeing Aya's emotional break down was one of the most painful scenes I've ever watched in a cartoon. This women sacrificed herself for him and then literally came back from the dead for him, only to be coldly rejected afterward. Ouch. I felt like Razor really lived up to his name here. He pretty much cut her heart open. I think that's when you know a DC animated show has turned a corner, when under all the action and epic moments, they can actually make you feel something. That's when a show starts to feel like a classic
They're really going hard with the emotional content on this show, while still providing tons and tons of epic moments, awesome action, and really movie like moments. I feel like I'm watching an animated movie. Young Justice has been solid, but GL has been really pushing past it in quality with recent episodes. Damn those cancellations

Recent cartoons are great, but this thread needs some golden age... fun.

Their Superman cartoons were easily some of the best looking of the era.
