^I remember that. It's like they looked at the album art for Motorhead - Ace of Spades and thought "this is how metalheads dress right?"
It's really odd... kinda cool in its own way though.

Botswana is in a pretty temperate zone, they're probably okay. but yeah, leather is not very breathable.

I actually like what I've heard from Botswana. Skinflint sounds old school in a good way. And honestly, seeing some of these guys in video on CNN's website, they look pretty cool. I'd hang out with them.

I like the look, although I just personally don't see wearing more leather than a jacket or vest. Too damn hot otherwise.
Why are cowboy hats not a thing in Metal elsewhere? We should bring it in. (I believe I'm safe in assuming Lemmy had a hand in inspiring that?)
EDIT: (WHY THE HELL IS IT SO HARD TO FIND MELODEATH WITH CLEAN VOCALS? Or female vocalists in melodeath?)

Gama Bomb - Killer Exodus/Anthrax style Thrash band. An added bonus is that many of their songs are about nerdy subjects such as video games, sci-fi movies, and Super Heroes.
Evile - I haven't listened to these guys too much, but I've enjoyed the songs I have listened to. Good Slayer style band.
Bonded By Blood - As you can probably guess by their name, this band plays Thrash in the vein of Exodus. My opinion is pretty much the same as my opinion of Evile.
Havok - This band rips your face off with no mercy! I saw them recently and they put on a great show with an insane moshpit.
Speed Kill Hate - I don't come back to this band very often but their debut album: Acts of Insanity is fun for a few listens. I haven't listened to their recent album: Out for Blood yet. This band is a side project of Overkill's Dave Linsk.
Swashbuckle - I talked a little bit about this band before. I went to one of their concerts earlier this year and had a real good time. Great crowd interaction. The band's gimmick is having pirates as their lyrical subject. Tales about the exploits of buccaneers actually makes for some pretty good metal songs. They might be a bit of a stretch as their sound strays into Kreator territory at times.
revisiting your suggestions i'd have to rank havok as my favorite and exactly what i was looking for. evile was a close second. consistent but just not anything as epic sounding as say "the cleric" from havok. gama bomb=boring to me. songs all ran together, weak hooks... i only gave them about 1hr though, just nothing stuck out. other 2 i passed on. wasn't a big overkill fan back in the day.

I enjoyed the Botswana metal guys' fashion, but I was hoping for more of an African influence in their metal. It sounded rather generic imo.

Actually JT, I do see some of the history in the lyrics, even if it doesn't have the musical influence. Skinflint's Iron Pierced King, for instance. It is something that could be written in places like Europe, but coming from sub-Sahara Africa, it has a much darker meaning to me.
