I mostly just play for fun - I don't have the readily available knowledge of obscure games or lesser known systems to have any hope of winning one of these games. So, I've known I wasn't going to win the whole time and I still try to play - I don't mind if it keeps going even though it's pretty much decided.
Someone actually in the running might feel differently though.
