Don't you find it completely awkward that Hammond, along with other characters, return from the dead for the sequel? I mean, you can't blame Chrichton for writing another book, but I wasn't a fan of the Lost World (the book).CFFJR wrote:

What was the last movie you've seen?

First, I wanted to comment that I am now looking forward to Lockout.Luke wrote:

And next, I wanted to echo how awful The Lost World was, as both a book and a movie. I read it years ago, and only finally watched it a couple of years ago.
Maybe I had just finally grown up by the time I read it, but it was the first time I read a Michael Crichton book and though, "Wow, he's a bad writer." The book was quite obviously written to be easily adapted to the screen, with tons of paragraphs that are just descriptions of wonderous choreographed vistas of dinosaurs like they had in the first move. This is funny because I don't recall the movie being particularly faithful to the book.
Also, the movie features a twelve-year-old who uses gymnastics to uneven-bar a velociraptor into submission. No thank you. That said, if the same thing happens in Lockout, I'll probably cheer out loud.

Wait, seriously? I hate Jurassic Park period, but I need to see this.Limewater wrote: Also, the movie features a twelve-year-old who uses gymnastics to uneven-bar a velociraptor into submission. No thank you. That said, if the same thing happens in Lockout, I'll probably cheer out loud.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Whoa, wait, Hammond is in The Lost World (book)? I know he's in the movie, but he doesn't die in the first movie. I know he dies in the first book, but he's not in the the second book. At least, unless he appears in the later half of the book (I've only read half of Lost World, maybe two-thirds).Luke wrote:Don't you find it completely awkward that Hammond, along with other characters, return from the dead for the sequel? *EDIT* Removed old link and replaced with much better one.sabrage wrote:Wait, seriously? Here is a much better video of it. See about two minutes in, but you should probably just watch the whole thing for the setup. You'll have to watch an ad first, but it's worth it.

Nobody but Spielberg.Limewater wrote:The timing is all off on this video, allegedly to avoid automatic detection, but I think this is it:sabrage wrote:Wait, seriously? Go back and watch the new link I posted. It's MUCH better, and gives a lot more AMAZING context.sabrage wrote: Nobody but Spielberg.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Hammond and Ian Malcolm are both in The Lost World "novel", I'm almost positive of it. Could be wrong, it has happened a time or two before.Ziggy587 wrote:

@limey:
That gymnastic scene still makes me do the ol' ell oh ell. It's not as dumb as Robin doing laundry gymnastics, but it rates high on Luke's hilarity meter, and that is what counts.
The nod to Godzilla in the movie is quite charming though. Racistly charming.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
As far as I read in the book, Hammond is not alive. I think he might be mentioned a few times, but he's not around any where. Ian Malcolm didn't die in the first book. To the best of my memory, he was doing pretty bad but it was made unclear whether or not he actually died. I definitely remember, the book never stated flat out that he was in fact dead.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I think Crichton made it pretty clear he was dead. He just brought the character back because he was really popular in the movie. At the end of the novel, he isn't on the helicopter leaving the island, and they talk about not being able to bury Malcolm and Hammond.Ziggy587 wrote:To the best of my memory, he was doing pretty bad but it was made unclear whether or not he actually died. I mean, I guess technically Dennis Nedry isn't explicitly killed in the novel either, even though the last time we see him he's alone and holding his own intestines in his hands while his face is melting off or something.
