I don't buy ALL of their stuff, but I do buy most of it. Animal Crossing, the Mario RPGs, and the Pokemon spinoffs are the only ones I've never really dug into. Pikmin might qualify since I've never played any of those to the end, but I have Pikmin and Pikmin 3 on my shelf, so I don't really count that as an "I don't buy their shit" point.Sarge wrote:I definitely don't buy all their stuff, there were quite a few games that I didn't care for in the Nintendo Direct... but that's the name of the game. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I'm choosy but GC/GBA era I more or less would buy any of it as I enjoyed it. The problem is my tastes haven't much changed because the N64 issues of the era drove me multiconsole and working with Midway for 2 years and media after further so. Yet their design choices and changes in how they handle classic IPs have become questionable at best on some franchises and others (like main line Mario) are still solid, yet some go just straight up dead for no good reason like F-Zero. Some of their IPs I won't even buy anymore (like Mario Party), at least not new and not until they're quite cheap (Mario Kart, almost on the dead list, Kirby too, and Zelda is in here sadly as well too now.) I have no problem with change if it's handled well, but when change equates adding weird tweaks and fluff just to do something different going forward I prefer the less is more design model. Given they broke my confidence in them after now 2 generations of questionable console handling I'm not sure what to do when the next one comes but strongly leaning towards a first time wait and see if it's a console alone.
OH and yeah Last of Us did remaster fairly nice, but some like GOW3 and FF10 were more thin on it given they came from only a generation ago too. But Uncharted, at least and in particular the 1st one on that Trilogy package was stunningly upgraded and 2 moderately so, but 3 felt more GOW3/FF10 minimal.

What is so great about The Last of Us remaster? I have it, played through both the original and the remaster and I don't see anything special about it... I mean, the game itself is brilliant, but the work they did on the remaster seems minimal and no where near matches what Nintendo does with their remasters.

Better framerate, sharper graphics... yeah, AFAIK that's it. I only bought the remastered versrion because I never bought it on PS3.Reprise wrote:What is so great about The Last of Us remaster? See but the stuff you don't buy is awesome. Animal crossing is a good chill game, mario rpgs are just plain hilarious and a nice break from the normal formula, and pokemon spin-offs are sometimes a little more entertaining to play at the moment than normal pokemon games. Heck I kinda want to play some animal crossing right now >_>ElkinFencer10 wrote:I don't buy ALL of their stuff, but I do buy most of it. That's all I noticed. That and they swapped the L1/R1 and L2/R2 functions around, so you could use the analogue triggers for aiming and shooting.BoringSupreez wrote:Better framerate, sharper graphics... yeah, AFAIK that's it. Otherwise, it was the same game... Even the visual upgrade wasn't anything amazing.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
For those with Twilight Princess HD - I have the original one but for whatever reason (probably the hype) I want the HD remake. I have the WiiU on my HD Plasma and a Wii on my standard def CRT (most Wii games look better through the component on CRT).
I never beat the original one on the Wii (or really played it), so my question: Is the upgrade really worth the money or should I just play the OG Wii version?

Well, I am super, super biased against the Wii version and whilst I do own the GameCube version, it always bugged me that it lacked widescreen, so for me personally, it is worth buying the Wii U version.SpaceBooger wrote:For those with Twilight Princess HD - I have the original one but for whatever reason (probably the hype) I want the HD remake. I HATE the Wii controls and I didn't like the fact it was mirrored and Link was right handed, so I was happy to finally get the Gamecube version, in high definition and with wide screen. It looks absolutely fantastic in my opinion. Otherwise though, it's just the same game. It's been streamlined in a couple of places, but that's about it.
So is it worth buying? It depends on how much you like Twilight Princess and whether you like the Wii version? On the Wii U, it's the definitive version, but at the end of the day, it's still just the same game.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
With Twilight Princess, I haven't been able to play it since it's release. I was planning on getting the GCN version, but my brother bought the Wii version for my birthday after its release. The problem for me was the trade off of widescreen but having to deal with waggle controls. I'm not an anti-motion control kind of guy, but for a game like this, I REALLY much prefer playing with a traditional controller. But for the GCN/Wii releases, this meant sacrificing widescreen display. I eventually acquired a GCN copy of the game, but I've played neither.
I pre-ordered as soon as I learned about the HD Wii U version. Not only is it widescreen, but now HD, so it's visually the superior version. Also, not only will it have a more "traditional" controller set up, but it has gamepad integration similar (from what I've seen in videos) to what Wind Waker HD did. I absolutely loved the use of the gamepad in Wind Waker HD, so this completely sold me on this new version.
Of course, this is just my own personal opinion that might not apply to you, but I view the HD version as the superior version of the game. I'll say this, though: If you already own the Wii version and don't mind the waggle controls, then I'm not sure how much the HD version has to offer you (I'm assuming you're OK with 480p versus HD or you wouldn't even be asking this).
I'll just stress the gamepad controls more. To me, the gamepad alone makes it worth playing over the Wii or GCN version. I had a blast using the gamepad in Wind Waker HD. Link Between Worlds was similar to this, and I loved that too. Switching items instantly, without having to pause the game, is awesome.
edit: Looks like I have very similar thoughts to Reprise about it.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I've played all three versions of Twilight Princess (well, I've started TPHD but haven't finished it, obviously), and I love all three (but I'm a big fan of the Wii and its control scheme in general, so take that for what it's worth). I think it's definitely worth getting the HD version if you've got the cash to burn because it looks MUCH nicer and while I liked the Wii controls, the Wii U will feel much more like what we're used to from a Zelda game. It also was a remaster of the Gamecube version, not the mirrored Wii version, and I do think that that makes it the "true" version. I loved it on Wii, but it bothered me that that they mirrored the world.
If you don't have $60 to spare or don't feel like burning it, though, then you're not going to miss out on a whole great deal. The Wii version, while obviously a launch title, is a very competent version of the game, and while it hasn't aged as well as Skyward Sword or Wind Waker, it doesn't look bad IMO, especially when you're not using the garbage composite cables. If you're using a wide screen TV, though, the Wii U version's wide screen support does make a VERY nice difference.
