Really adds a unique quality to the game play.
The main reason why I had to find the PS2 version.

Its kind of hidden, Press ∆ at the highlighted Start Game Icon.

Went to a local pawn shop today and looked over their mounds of Genesis' (Genesises? Genesi?). One caught my eye because it's reset button was purple and I pulled it out. Turned out it was a Japanese Mega Drive Model One with the hookups, picked that up.
