I think you're dismissing the Xbox too easily. The Team Ninja was early out the gate too and a huge deal. Also pretty sure I had more fun with friends and Fusion Frenzy than any Mario Party. Sega and Capcom quickly had some quality titles on there.

Not to mention the Xbox began to bridge that gap between pc and console with games like morrowind.

It was a big deal!The

^ DC is the one that bridged the gap. It used WinCE and Direct X 6. Xbox used 8. DC is loaded with PC ports and I mean loaded. I do agree Xbox was a cool system. There is a lot of games I loved on that thing not named Halo.

With how good the best Jackbox Party Pack games are, I see any previous party games as utterly redundant at this point. Drawful and Fibbage (and their sequels) are probably the only party games I'll need for like the rest of forever with how much content they have and how damn accessible they are. A lot of games like Mario Party (especially the earlier ones) kinda require being good at video games to properly enjoy them. This isn't to mean that they're bad games, but it kinda makes them ill-suited to purpose of "party" by design, unless you're having a gamers-only party.

I would argue the Playstation initially bridged the gap. There were a number of PS1 3D titles that were on both PC and PS1. That said, I don't think that's what Bogus was referring to. The Xbox literally bridged the gap in a way no previous console did via a similar hardware platform. The Xbox was a herald of the current generation of consoles. Porting titles was easier on Xbox than it had ever been previously.

I think the platform helped a lot, but far as I know rampant piracy on PC at the time (and the sheer size of the market) encouraged developers to head towards consoles as well. The PS2 got a number of PC ports too.

Taking a cue from the games beaten thread, here is an unpopular opinion.

I LOVE the isometric perspective in games. I love the depth it adds, love platforming in it, love everuthing about it! 2d games with an isometric perspective are huge breaths of fresh air!

I have mixed feelings on the isometric thing. I LOVE the look of PC titles, both old and new that use it. RTS's or RPG's, the point and click stuff with moveable characters, etc. But I don't seem to be a fan of playing these things at all anymore. Planescape almost put me in a coma. Also got bored of the new Shadowrun like 10 minutes in. I might try out Divinity Sin II sometime though, it sounds fascinating. But I kind of keep away from these games now, even though they're pretty to look at.

But if you're talking sprite pixel based isometric stuff... I love those. The weird Cool Spot Goes to Hollywood, etc, but most importantly, Sonic 3D Blast RULES. I love it. People don't even know! Super Mario RPG looks freaking cool too, which you're playing now I believe.

I am playing Super Mario Rpg right now and am loving the isometric view. I also agree, I love sonic 3D Blast. The Saturn version has one of the best special stages of all Sonics. A more manageable sonic 2 style special stages but full 3d models and some trippy visuals.

Alright, time to confess. I don't care for the NES Zelda game... or Zelda II on NES.

Don't hurt me!
