I haven't seen much of you around here in the past month or two. I didn't know if you'd be up to it again. I just saw your thread. Huge thanks for taking it again, that makes it much easier on me the other 11 months out of the yearmjmjr25 wrote:Exed - i'm not sure why you just posted that you don't have time to organize November. It's my month and i'll be organizing it as has been the plan for almost a year. Participation will be solid i'm quite sure.
Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (Completed)

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (October - Super-X)
Right, so back to Super-X.
ExedExes - 831,800 - Stage 4 (boss) - MAME

Despite what the game says, the "power shot" mode really isn't that much more powerful than your regular weapon. The bomb also affects everything on screen even thought it looks like it has a certain area effect only.
ExedExes - 831,800 - Stage 4 (boss) - MAME

Final Super-X Score:
ExedExes - 831,800 - Stage 4 (boss) - MAME
We will be off in November for the RB STGT. See you back in December!

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (December - Xexex)
Welcome back to SOTM all STGT participants. Congrats to Castration Nation (DocHauser/dsheinem/KalessinDB). Thanks again to mjmjr25 for running it.
It is now time for Xexex.
** IMPORTANT NOTE -- PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING! **
We will be playing the JAPANESE version of this game. There have been changes made to the World version that deviate it way past the original Japanese version, including:
- fewer in-game weapons than the Japanese version
- 1 life with 3 hits as opposed to 3 lives in the Japanese version
- lack of rapid-fire functionality (making the game harder)
- different enemy patterns (at least what my sources say)
This was also the version the Shmups forum used when they played this at their 2010 STGT.
In MAME, the main rom is Xexex ( version EAA - xexex.zip ).
You MUST download this as well as the Japanese Xexex rom ( version JAA - xexexj.zip ) in order to play the Japanese version. Again, please play only the Japanese version so that there are no issues.
Finally, if you happen to have the PSP port on the Japan-only Salamander Portable collection, scores will be counted as that uses the Japanese version of Xexex.
Thank you and good luck!

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (December - Xexex)
I hated the game when I played it then and dreaded the experience every time I fired it up. I hit about 350K and couldn't make it past 1-3.ExedExes wrote: This was also the version the Shmups forum used when they played this at their 2010 STGT.
I don't know that I have it in me to play this game again, but I think everyone should at least try it as some people adore it's masochistic streak...
Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (December - Xexex)
I'm looking forward to it. When I fired it up to check the different versions for 1991 it's really graphically impressive and I see the R-Type and even X-Multiply influences. Konami is known for tough shmups so I won't be surprised.dsheinem wrote:I hated the game when I played it then and dreaded the experience every time I fired it up. In that case, it's time to dig out the PSP.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2014 (December - Xexex)
That was a last minute thought, I decided to make mention of that because I figured someone had that.

I played it on the PSP as well - I wonder if I'd like it better in MAME...ExedExes wrote:That was a last minute thought, I decided to make mention of that because I figured someone had that.

TSTR - 280,600 - Stage 1-2 (Boss) - MAME

What a pretty game. Very weird, but pretty.
