I would have to disagree. I think at the beginning, he cared about his family more than anything. He started cooking/selling meth as a means to provide for them after he died from the cancer. But over the course of the show, his priorities have shifted, his greed has grown, and he's become a much more self-centered and sadistic man. Remember when he missed the birth of his daughter in order to make that big meth exchange?

At this point, he cares more about his stature as a (former) drug kingpin and about his millions than he does his family. Not saying that he doesn't care about his family, because he certainly still does. I just think that he cares about the money and the power more.
If that were true, he'd have no problem offing Hank, rather than turning himself over to him in the desert and effectively DESTROYING Heisenburg. He also would act the part of a badass kingpin when telling the nazis to kill Jesse, instead of the pathetic guy we actually saw in that scene who was conflicted over his feelings for Jesse and being subtly made fun of by them. He also would not have left the business and turned over his product and its supervision to Lydia and some Europeans he's never met.

We're not seeing a whole lot of Heisenburg this season. I think Walt really does want to leave that persona behind him and is trying to be just Walt again. With his cancer back, his focus is back on where it started, leaving something behind for his family. It's why he told Skylar he'd turn himself in if she agreed to make sure her and Jr were provided for.

Unfortunately, Walt is learning the hard way that you can't just leave that life behind. That's not how karma works

Keep in mind Vince Gilligan has already been down a very similar road. He created the X-files spinoff "The Lone Gunmen". That too was a comedy-centric drama spun off of a successful show which was much darker. Of course The Lone Gunmen tanked, but due to a lot of reasons that aren't as relevant here.

Finally got a minute to watch this. It was worth it. It wasn't as funny as the Batman Begins or Star Wars Episode III spoofs (the only other Jimmy Fallon spoofs I've seen) but it was awesome just from being a fan of the show and the cameos. I laughed pretty damn hard when Bryan Cranston threw the pizza.

Jay Leno was the cherry on the top.

Only really two laughs in the whole 12 minutes (pizza throw and leno). The rest was mostly, "Hey, we're dressing and talking like breaking bad characters" without any real jokes. Probably funnier if you watch his show regularly and recognize his cast in the roles.

Also, if Hank does not die tonight, then the writers have done an incredible job of spinning us towards that belief. Not only do Hank and Marie give very final sounding I love yous, but he says "It may be a while before I get home". That sort of line is a writers dream if it leads to someones demise. Also, Dean Norris is appearing on Talking Bad tonight. Something that would likely happen if he's just been killed off.

But I hope this is all just a brilliant ruse to misdirect us.

The dude doing Jesse was cringeworthy.

That skit was clearly for fans. I don't think anyone not familiar with the show would have found any of it funny, but I enjoyed it. It was full of references that only serious fans would catch. It was a celebration of the show by people who are clearly fans.

I didn't really like the vid at all. I used to watch the show, but his sidekick guy is always so annoying. Someone obviously thinks he's funny, but he always falls flat for me.

The only chuckle I really had was the Leno ending, but I saw the spoiler. But I found it mostly cringe-worthy.
