I played most of the first one, and I got really fed up with it as the story wasn't very engaging. At times I could partner up when I reacquired it when my nephews wanted to play it over the summer somewhat after the Taken King was out. It was far better with a party, but the game itself has a very broken stupid system with no chatting lobby, no random party forming, only friends lists or you're screwed which is the worst design decision for a game like that ever. I'm not a fan, yet I am curious if they really did make D2 right allowing for that (lobby and random teaming up without friends list isolation.) I know they finally made a solid 1P mode campaign worth the time at least.
Here's another unpopular one it appears among SNES Classic owners, wanna be owners, and armchair quarterbacks -- the 21 games on it are a damn near perfect sampling of the library and I feel the whining online about it is mostly unjustified. I attribute it greatly to the gotta have it immediate satisfaction types who have to have it all or they get upset about it, along with those who probably should spend the wasted time whining making a Pi box as they don't quite get it. I know this argument isn't popular given the self important comments I've seen on social media, reddit, and other locations with various fanboys thinking they know better than Nintendo+their lawyers and the third parties theirs.

I always wonder when i see someone saying the first Halo is the best one if they actually played that game lately? I loved it back when it came out but good chunk of that game is just ugly tedious corridors. Halo 2 is much, much better and at one point it was unpopular opinnion to like it over the first game because everyone was whining about the ending and Arbiter.

I couldn't agree more.

Only played 1 and 3. I owned Halo 1 for Xbox and played 3 at a party for a couple hours. I just felt they were bland. Esp in the art department. Wasn't a fan of the dual stick controls. Maybe I would adapt to them better now. It's been a long long time. About a decade since I played 3 and Halo 1 I played in 2004. I'd have to try them again someday. Sometimes a type of game or s series disliked over a decade ago I end up liking later.

I can see appreciating it for what it did at the time, since I don't think any Halo game since has been as influential. However, when I played through (most) of the series the other year, I found that the first did tend to fall into that (and having a good chunk of it literally be "and now you go back the way you came" didn't help). They all have different things they do better or worse. If there's a best, it's Reach.

Halo 1 is timeless. I even prefer the original version over the newer Anniversary coating (the remixed music isn't as good either). I go back to it a lot and still love it.

Pretty solid for sure, but Breath of the Wild is my GotY so far.

I never saw much of a wow factor or care with Halo either. It always came off as the MS fanboys excuse to justify owning the old xbox when it didn't have crap for unique games worth owning for over a year. It was always Halo this and that. It's good but it's not excellent and I didn't think much of the sequels. I did own the PC version of the first and it was fun and solid stuff, finished it a couple times years ago. I think the story behind it, had someone made some non-grade school level writing attempts as novelizing the actual story into a few books (book per video game) would have been stellar fun reading.

The Eric Nylund books were quite good. Made for better stories than 3, ODST, Reach, etc.
I think you're dismissing the Xbox too easily. The Team Ninja was early out the gate too and a huge deal. Also pretty sure I had more fun with friends and Fusion Frenzy than any Mario Party. Sega and Capcom quickly had some quality titles on there.
